Preschool FAQs

  • Why do we start paying in July when school doesn’t start until the middle of August? 
    The total tuition is divided into 10 or 12 prepaid equal payments.  If you are on the 10 month plan then you would not have a payment in May and the 12 month plan would not make a payment in July.

  • Is there a discount for siblings?
    Yes, there is a 10% discount for siblings.
  • At what age do children wear uniforms?  
    Children start wearing uniforms in the three year old preschool class.

  • What time do children have to be at school?
    School starts at 8:00 a.m. Children do not have to be in class at that time; however the first hours of the day is the child’s free time. This time is where they can do any activity that they would like. This is also when children are developing their social skills. Structured learning starts around 9:00 a.m.
  • Is lunch included in my child’s tuition?
    Lunch can be included in tuition with the 5-day program and the Full Care plan.
  • How do we set up an account with The Healthy Lunchbox?
    Go to the Northland website and click on “Quick Links” then scroll down to Lunch Program. When you click on “Lunch Program” it will take you to the Healthy Lunchbox website. Instructions will be given when you click on “Order Lunch”.

  • Where do we buy school uniforms?
    Uniforms are sold in the Cougar Store at the Secondary campus. They may also be bought on line. Check the website for hours of operation.  
  • Are open-toed shoes allowed?
    Closed toed shoes are safer especially with rubber soles. Shredded tires are used as the surfacing of the playground and the pieces get into open-toed shoes.
  • Do preschool students need to wear a certain uniform on certain days?
    Any uniform clothing may be worn on any day with the exception of Fridays. Fridays are spirit days and children may wear a spirit T-shirt and jean shorts or long pants, or black exercise shorts or pants.
  • Are parents allowed to eat with their child?
    Parents are allowed to eat with their child in the classroom. Please be aware that the child might think that it is time for him/her to go home and may become upset. Give children plenty of time to adjust to their new routine. Preschool Handbook.
  • Can we have birthday parties at school?  
    We want to celebrate children’s birthdays with as little disruption to the day as possible. You may bring cookies or cupcakes the morning that the birthday is being celebrated. They will have a special treat at snack time which is usually between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. We do not have birthday parties.
  • Can we increase or decrease our plan?
    Yes. You can increase your plan at no charge if there is space in the class.  You can always add the morning or afternoon extended care. If you decrease your plan, it will cost $50.
  • When does extended care start?
    Morning Extended Care starts at 6:30 a.m. Children will be picked up at 7:50 by their classroom teacher. Afternoon extended care starts at 3:00 p.m. Any child still in the classroom at 3:00 p.m. will be signed into Extended Care. The fee is $17.00 for any portion of the PM extended day period.
