Baseball Program

The Northland Cougar baseball program is built around a culture of selflessness, self-discipline, and servitude. Every player is trained to become a leader among his peers and develop a role where he can contribute to the success of the team. "Become the best teammate you can be" is the ethos of the program. The coaching staff is committed to building character, integrity, honor, and accountability in the student-athlete. The baseball complex at Northland is one of the nicest in the city, with a beautiful natural grass field, new clubhouse and a brand new indoor hitting and workout facility. Our proud banner that reads "Grateful for Everything. Entitled to Nothing" hangs in the rafters.

The Cougar varsity baseball team is coming off of a rebuilding year in which a very young but talented team finished tied for second place in district and advanced to the Area playoffs. This year's team will again be led by a few talented seniors and a host of talented underclassmen. Building a tradition of advancing deep into the postseason, Head Coach Rick Nixon is confident that this team is poised to compete for the State title. Nixon is in his fourth year as Head Coach and ninth year as a member of the baseball coaching staff at Northland. He has served as the team physician for Northland athletics for the past sixteen years. First assistant Brian Fisher, who played his high school baseball at Klein High School and college baseball at Oklahoma City University, is in his fourth year as hitting and defensive coordinator on the staff. Second year assistant Tyler Bremer, who played collegiately at Baylor University and professionally at the AA and AAA level for the Marlins organization, serves as the varsity pitching coach and head junior varsity coach. The middle school team is managed by long-time Northland fixture Monny Webster. Proper player development starts at the middle school level and is the cornerstone of the coaching philosophy.

Each year, for the past several years, the Northland baseball program has seen several of its players enter the college ranks. The baseball season will officially start up on January 14th with the varsity team playing in over 30 games including 3 tournaments. The varsity competes in a very competitive TAPPS 4A district, and has a highly competitive non-district schedule against larger private schools in the area.
