We’re off to the races for the 2020-2021 Black & Gold Gala - DERBY DAY

Derby Day logo
This year, more than ever, we as a Northland Family are grateful for our school and the leadership, staff, & students! Through challenging times, our school rose to the occasion to be able to hold in-person education on campus for our community!
This year, like every year before, Black & Gold Gala will be a time of fundraising, but most importantly a time of fellowship. We would like you to join us as we celebrate Northland at the annual Black & Gold Gala - Derby Day!
We will be running for the roses on Saturday, April 17th starting at 4pm. This year's gala will be held at an open-air outdoor venue that will allow for social distancing while we race to the finish line to provide some much-needed funds for the school. There will be a Remote Virtual Silent Auction, In-Person Raffle, Big Board, & Live Auction all benefiting Northland Christian School.

Join us April 17, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on the outdoor patio of The Butler House for a carefully curated socially safe gala with fellowship & fun!
Extend the night's festivities and stay around until 10:00 p.m. for Derby Day After Dark, Black and Gold's first ever after party. Your ticket to the after party will include dancing, special surprise games, a liquor pull, a special derby sandwich and a drink ticket.

What is Black and Gold Gala?
The Black and Gold Gala is an annual event held during the Spring semester. This event raises funds for Northland Christian School to supplement various initiatives. In years past this has funded stadium lights, new desks, computers for the school, etc. As you can imagine, the costs associated with operating during a pandemic are robust. These funds will help fill the gap between annual tuition and the ever rising costs of running a school during a pandemic.
This year Black and Gold Gala is more important than ever. Not only do we want to raise funds for Northland, we want to provide a time of fellowship and fun for our Northland family new and old. The Black and Gold Gala is something for current Northland families, alumni, and friends of Northland. We welcome all to attend!
What is planned for this event?
This year a carefully curative safe and socially distant event is being planned. The silent auction is virtual using an app to place your bids. This will open the week leading up to the Black & Gold Gala and close the day before the event. The silent auction will feature experiences with teachers, on campus events, etc. These will all take place in the Fall Semester of 2021. Details on the app to download and how to bid will be coming closer to the auction opening.
The day of the event will start with a social hour for guests to view the raffle items, big board items, and see a preview of the live auction items. Hors d’oeuvres will be passed by masked & gloved team members of The Butler House. A cash bar will feature mixed cocktails, wine & beer for guests to purchase. Mint Juleps will be the signature cocktail for the most discerning Derby Day attendees! Tickets for a Balloon Pop will be available for purchase along with a variety of fun games and ways to participate in all the pomp & circumstance of grand fashion the Kentucky Derby has to offer.
A “Rider’s Up” game will be conducted for a chance to win an exciting prize followed by a live auction featuring exclusive experiences & trips. The entire night will be emceed by a very special guest and auctioneer.
The evening will conclude with the Big Board closing after the live auction & everyone taking home their raffle items they may have won!
Where is this event taking place?
The Butler House was specifically chosen as the venue for our event. Located on Gosling just north of the Grand Parkway, this beautiful outdoor restaurant is the perfect setting for our Derby Days Black and Gold Gala. Providing an open air environment this locally/family owned location, The Butler House provides a dining experience that lends itself to a fabulous time.
What are the Covid-19 precautions being taken?
Safety is on the forefront of everyones mind while planning this event. As mentioned, The Butler House is an open-air outdoor venue. All guests in attendance will be asked to wear a mask while not eating or drinking. Everyone’s temperatures will be taken upon entering the event and a screening questionnaire will be conducted for each guest. Smaller tables will allow for social distancing and we ask anyone who is not feeling well, has been exposed, or is pending a covid test refrain from attending this event.
Is there a way for me to support this event, but not attend?
Yes, of course! There are several ways you can participate in Black & Gold Gala-Derby Days if you’re not able to attend the event.
Underwriting & Sponsorship Opportunities are available (see above) that greatly benefit the school and help for the funding of the event.
Additionally, we are looking for items for our raffle. Your donations will be combined with others to create exciting raffle items featured the night of the event. If you have items, vacation homes, season tickets, please contact Marianna Stivers for coordination. (contact information below).
If you would like to purchase a table and/or tickets to donate back to the event we will invite a special guest to attend using your generous donation.
Lastly, we will have “ghost bidders” available the night of the event to assist you in bidding on Live Auction items. You would just need to be available via phone to communicate with the ghost-bidder there bidding on your behalf.
