Northland’s international program focuses on creating a home environment for our students, which we believe provides a much better learning environment since students are provided with the social and emotional support of a family structure. All female international students participate in our Home Stay program, living with local families. Male international students live either in the Home Stay program or in our on-campus residence hall. Our residence hall is a unique experience, managed by an American family who lives in the hall and creates a family atmosphere for our 16-18 male students.
Host families for the Home Stay program are carefully chosen after background checks, reference checks, and personal interviews. They receive a program orientation and ongoing support so that they can provide the best home experience for our international students. Several staff members at Northland are current host families in our program.
While we know that no home can take the place of your home, it is our aim to create an environment for our international students that feels as much like home as possible. Students are given structure, stability, and emotional support, while they have the opportunity to experience family-life in America.
