Coaching Staff

Gil Gonzalez III
At Northland Christian, we believe athletics is a proving ground for building and growing the next generation of Christian leadership.

We have built a team of coaches with high-level technical skills in their sport. We strive to train our athletes as if they will compete at the collegiate level. This includes intense physical training, as well as concepts that are utilized at the collegiate and professional levels. Our coaches have the highest expectations for the athletes on campus, and Northland Christian athletes deliver time and time again.

We aim and build for championships, but championships don’t define us. Trophies and medals may lose their luster, but the character development that occurs through hard work, playing through adversity, and being a contributing member of a fiercely competitive team with a common goal is lifelong.

Our coaching staff is proud to graduate student athletes that are prepared to take on the challenges of college, the workplace, and the ever-changing world. Our student athletes graduate with lifelong memories, lifelong friends, and the tools to be scholars and leaders with a Christian worldview.

I Went to Angelina Junior college to play baseball for 2years before getting drafted by the Cubs and playing professionally for 11 years. Towards the middle of my career I started back going to University of Phoenix Online to get my degree in business management. Since retiring I have been coaching and teaching the game as well as running the Houston Heat Select Baseball organization.

I have 3 kids, Jerzie (12), Easton (8), and Beckett (3). The older two play softball and baseball and various other sports. My youngest is very interested in baseball already and ready to follow the older two’s footsteps. We like to go camping in our RV and travel for sports across the state and country.
I am a woodworker by hobby and have done projects that I have sold as well. I love getting out of the baseball mindset and building something from nothing. I also like to golf even though I don't get to do that much.
I love passing on my knowledge of the game and relating it to life lessons. I love being able to get a player to see things differently and helping them reach new heights in their career spiritually and physically.
I graduated from LeTourneau University with a B.A. in History. While I was at LeTourneau I played baseball for four years and was president of the history club my senior year.
I am happy to work at Northland because they want to grow the students just as much spiritually as they do in academics and athletics. To give students a firm foundation to stand on when they leave Northland.
I am the youngest in the family with one older brother and sister. My brother currently lives in Bartlesville, Ok where he works for ConocoPhillips. My sister lives in the Houston area and has three children that are awesome and I think about them when I teach.  My mother is a retired teacher and my dad works in the oil industry.
Some of my hobbies and interests include history, baseball, visiting theme parks, collecting monopoly and other games.

I love teaching and coaching because I am blessed by God to be able to help shape the next generation. Whenever I see students realize what their dreams are and see them go after them, it fills my heart with joy. I want to share that experience with all of my students.

Coach DaQueta JohnsonDaQueta Johnson is going into her 5th season with Northland Christian, taking 2nd place in District, advancing to second round playoffs in 2018. Entering into my 17th year of training and/or coaching travel ball fastpitch and have been inspirational in helping many softball players in the past years develop into top collegiate softball players at D1, D2, NAIA and community college level of play. Coach D's vision is to expose young student-athletes to a sound structured coaching environment that will ultimately guide them to achieve higher skill levels and better knowledge of the game. It all begins with stressing the importance of academics as it relates to competitive sports and to the success in their personal future endeavors through life.

Coach D, played her collegiate softball at Purdue University, from 2003-2006, setting several records over the years. Tied school single-game record for home runs with two against Dayton, Feb. 22, 2004, tied single-game RBI record with seven hits. Dwayne Johnson who has also coached out of southern California, for over 20 plus years. With such programs as, Flash D’ Gold and California Lite 18Gold, Texas lite 12u, 14u, 16u and 18gold, Impactgold18, Texas Intensity and now STX TFS 18gold. Coach DJ has been working hard over the past years to provide opportunities for female scholar athletes who have a desire to play softball at the collegiate level.
My Vision for a solid softball program is to expose female athletes to a sound structured coaching environment, which will ultimately help them achieve a higher skill level and a better knowledge of the game.
The game of softball will stress the importance of academics as it relates to competitive sports. To also give a solid foundation to enjoy success in their future endeavors and in life. All players must maintain certain standards of academics in order to play and must exhibit the effectiveness of “teamwork “through good attitude, effort, desire, heart and hustle.
Coach DJ, over the last several years, has run or assisted in building solid 18g, 16u, 14u and 12u teams for several programs. All teams have been trained in the same manner, as the older 18u team in order to build consistency, throughout the programs. This stability and consistency combined with the experienced coaching provides players with the best possible opportunity for collegiate softball exposure.
