Cougars Blast Off For A Cure

Seth Scott and Justin Webster have a lot in common. They are both freshmen at Northland, they both love to play football and they both have a servant’s heart for kids with Juvenile Diabetes. Seth’s 11-year-old cousin, Haley Webb, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes in 2005; and Justin’s 11-year-old sister, Kate, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes in 2007. Both young men have participated in the Walk For A Cure in years past as a show of support for the girls.

This year Seth and Justin decided to work together to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). In August, the young men started football practice and started planning their fundraiser. Justin and Seth recruited classmates and friends who spent their remaining summer vacation time designing the fundraiser logo, “Cougars Blast Off For A Cure”, and assembling the 400 collection boxes to hand out to Northland Secondary students at Chapel on August 18th. Seth and Justin put together a presentation introducing Haley and Kate and briefly describing what it is like to have Juvenile Diabetes.

Northland students, staff and friends did the rest. On September 18th the boxes were returned to school. Seth and Justin again recruited their friends and family to spend their Saturday evening counting money and rolling coins totaling $2,500!

On Saturday, September 26th, Seth and Justin again participated in the Walk For A Cure along with 13 Northland students, Coach Sanford and his family, and other friends and family celebrating the fundraising achievement and ensuring, on this day, Haley and Kate do not walk alone.

Seth and Justin want to thank everyone who supported and participated in the fundraiser and Walk.
