For the last three years students and faculty have anticipated our annual Spiritual Renewal Day, which is an all-day event on the NCS Secondary Campus on a Wednesday each February.
Students get to don Spirit Wear, miss classes, and leave laptops at home in exchange for a full day of spiritual growth. Instead they are asked to bring a package of diapers for the pro-life ministry of Care Net, in which they did, to the tune of over 16,000 diapers.
The day began with joy as Josh Cullen and the worship team from Northwood Assembly of God energized the student body with a powerful opening to the day. Following was our guest speaker, Mr. Phil Chalmers, who delivered an honest and assertive message of truth on the dangers of Satan’s lies through music, entertainment, video games, and premarital sex. Let’s just say Phil is not shy, nor is his intense message, which was full of visuals and rooted in God’s Word.
After Phil spoke students were privileged and moved by the testimonials of young ladies from Teen Challenge. These precious young women lived a life of lies and are now victorious through Jesus Christ. The testimonials preceded the live human video performance to the song “Everything,” by Lifehouse. The performance became a deeper and more meaningful experience after knowing the young ladies were not “acting,” as they had actually been immersed in a deep spiritual battle before being powerfully rescued by our stronger Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The day closed with a concert by Christian hip-hop artists, Tre9 and Von Won. The NCS fifth-grade joined us for the loud and celebratory atmosphere. The concert was a perfect finale to a day in which all the pieces just seemed to fit, as God does so often.
