NAM Holiday Food Drive
Friday, November 17, 2006

Praise the Lord for his mighty power! Praise the Lord for His great faithfulness! After a challenging and pressing week the NCS family glorified the name of Christ by filling a truck full of food for the hungry of Houston. Serving the Lord by serving Northwest Assistance Ministries was spiritual medicine for all who participated.

After receiving food at both the elementary and secondary campus, a team of seven servant-hearted students, Kent Hart, and I delivered the bus-load of food to NAM on Friday afternoon, November 17. The NAM food pantry was already stocked in preparation for their Annual Food Drive on Saturday, November 18. After NAM employees saw the Cougar food donation, and returned their dropped jaws to their original location, the students formed a chain from the bus to an empty NAM delivery truck. God filled the truck with food! The food kept coming from the rear of the bus like it was being added by the Lord through the front of the bus. The feeling must have been what it was like for all those who witnessed Jesus feeding the five thousand. The icing on this gift was NCS families donating almost five hundred dollars and another parent donating multiple frozen turkeys. To God be the glory! Saturday afternoon more students, parents, and I had the privilege and honor of personally handing bags of groceries, in the name of Jesus Christ, to needy families. Hundreds of families each received two stocked bags of food and a turkey for the Thanksgiving holidays. How thankful I was to join the students and parents who served under the banner of Northland, and more importantly, Jesus Christ!

HUNGER IN GREATER HOUSTON

TRUTH #1 – Most people using food pantries are NOT homeless!

TRUTH # 2 – Nearly half of the families using food pantries have at least one employed adult. The family does not make enough money to pay necessary bills and still eat. Can you imagine having to choose between electricity and feeding your hungry children?

TRUTH #3 - Hunger impacts a significant number of people in the greater Houston area. Area food pantries provide food to approximately 500,000 people each year and faith-based organizations operate 82 percent of the pantries.

(Facts are from a study by America's Second Harvest)

Please be in prayer for the ministry of NAM as they boldly and effectively serve the hungry of the greater Houston area. Please also be in prayer for the NCS student body as they heal and move forward in service to the Lord. May we all “Learn to Think Eternally,” and in good times and in bad, may we all bless the name of the Lord!

Matthew 25:34-40 (NLT)

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.'

37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?'

40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'
