Serving Lunch to the
Impact Church Congregation
Sunday, February 11, 2007
On February 11 the NCS students again served lunch to a hungry crowd following the Sunday morning services at the Impact Church of Christ. We met at the NCS Elementary Cafeteria where Jim Brooks, a member of Bammel Church of Christ, and his team had prepared the food for us to transport.
Our only job, albeit an important one, was to fill the plates and serve the food. We were a well-oiled machine on this occasion, since plenty of students attended giving us all the help we needed and then some. As far as I could tell, the most popular job was to circulate the room offering lemonade refills, and even better, dishing out seconds on mashed potatoes.
It humbles me to consider that there were guests who ate what was possibly the only hot meal they would eat all week. I saw one drifter, who was aged beyond his years, stuff some leftovers into his backpack and then he returned to his endless walk to who knows where. Jesus would understand this man as He also did not have a home to lay his head (Luke 9:58). Jesus instead trusted his heavenly father to provide.
Just like this physical drifter, there are those around us who are spiritually drifting. Their lives seem to have no coherent purpose. As Christians we must be prepared to offer the spiritual map that leads to our eternal home in heaven, which is freely offered through the saving blood of Jesus Christ.
Mark on your calendar APRIL 22, 2007 for your final opportunity to serve lunch to the Impact Church congregation.

1 Peter 3:15
(New International Version)
15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect . . . |
