18 Months - 2 Years

Program Overview

The majority of teaching in the toddler classes is talking about what we are doing and what the children are doing as we go about our daily routines. Appropriate models of behavior are presented in every aspect of our day so the children replicate these positive interactions.

Social/Emotional Development

Encourage appropriate self-help skills

  • Washing hands
  • Feeding self with fork and spoon
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Picking up toys
  • Picking up naptime mats

Encourage waiting patiently

  • For help from teacher
  • For lunch or snack
  • For their turn with a toy

Encourage moral behavior/develop respect for others and for property

  • Use please and thank you
  • Use kind hands
  • Develop empathy
  • Model playing with friends
  • Clean up after yourself (toys and snacks)
  • Use toys the right way
    - No throwing them
    - No hitting with them
    - No stepping on them

Physical Development

Sitting at the table

Using playground equipment safely

Books, small manipulatives and art projects to develop fine motor skills

Potty training

Encourage turning, spinning, and dancing

Ball for large motor development

Intellectual Development

Read to them

Give simple commands to follow

Work with toddlers on using words to express wants and needs

Two year olds work on lining up and using correct grasp

Curriculum

  • Weekly Bible stories using flip charts, songs and puppets
  • Monthly emphasis on a nursery rhyme, color, shape and number
  • Unit themes related to the time of year, holidays and seasons
