TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) is comparable to University Interscholastic League (UIL) in the public school system.
Who: High school grade levels 9 - 12
Other Competitors: 4A TAPPS Schools. In our area that includes Fort Bend Baptist, Lutheran High North and others.
When: District competition is usually late February or early March. District schools rotate hosting the event. The state competition is held at Concordia Lutheran, University in Austin in late March or early April.
How Selected: Students indicate interest on survey form. Then auditions may be held for speaking events and tests may be administered for testing events.
Format of Competition: This competition works to pick the top scoring students through tests and performances at the district level. then compete with other teams. the top four in any event progress to the state tournament. The team with the highest total amount of points wins the district title.The top four individuals will advance to state.
Grades: Grade 6-12
Competitors: Approximately 13 other private schools in this state-wide competition
Date: Early-to-mid April
Location: Abilene Christian University
Selection Process: Based on grades, teachers nominate the top nine students in academic areas. After taking a practice quiz, the top three scoring students are invited to participate.
Competition Format: There are five events in each grade with a variety of topics including mathematics, science, grammar, history, and Bible.
Competition Support: Students are coached by NCS teachers.
Years Competing: Northland has competed TCSIT for 27 years.
Fee: There is a fee of approximately $225 for each student that covers transportation, housing and entry fees.
