The Northland basketball team is spending their spring break on a goodwill tour/cultural exchange in China. Their first full day was spent in the city of Taiyuan, playing against the prestigious Number Five high school, ranked as one of China's top 10 high school teams. After the game, the Northland students took pictures, signed autographs, and exchanged contact information with many Number Five high school students, who were clearly excited to be spending time with their new American friends.

The Northland basketball team continued its China tour, flying to the south of China to city of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province. The next day saw a morning visit to an English training center, where students attended a panel discussion with Chinese families interested in sending their students abroad, and the afternoon included a visit to the ancient city of Pingyao, including a visit to a famous performance in that city.

Northland students were also privileged to attend the Shanxi provincial sports center, where future Olympians are trained, and visited the basketball, table tennis, gymnastics, cycling, and tennis centers.
