Sounds of Summer

This summer has been a busy time for our musicians! 30+ students continued lessons throughout the summer here at Northland, while several students also traveled around the state and country to fine tune their craft.

Ainsley Tarver (6th grade), Hayden Miller (7th grade), Julia Hearn (7th grade) and Madeleine Hearn (7th grade) attended the Texas Music Teacher's Association in Dallas in June. Hayden (piano) won a gold medal in the All Star Solo Festival, and a trio made up of Julia (violin), Madeleine (cello), and Hayden (piano) won third place and a cash prize in the ensemble contest.

Hayden also attended the Philadelphia International Music Festival with elite musicians from around the world, studying with musicians from the Philadelphia Orchestra and Curtis Institute of Music. To top off his summer studies, he attended an intense 2 week AFA Summer Music Festival, and not only did lessons, masterclasses and theory, but was also chosen to perform in an outreach concert for patients and doctors at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.

Julia and Madeleine attended the University of Arlington Summer Strings camp in July for one week. Madeleine performed in the top orchestra (out of 6 levels) at 7th chair and was the only middle school student in the group, and Julia performed in the 2nd highest orchestra (also made of mainly high school students), and earned 1st chair in her section.

Wellington Parenti attended the Summer Strings Cypress Creek FACE program with a final concert held in the Centrum.

Congratulations to these musicians on all their accomplishments this summer. It's going to be an exciting year with higher participation in Region and Honor Festivals as well as sharing music throughout the community!
