Cougars Serving the Northland Community

The entire Northland Christian School Community has felt the impact of Hurricane Harvey throughout the last week. As many of our families were impacted by the major flooding, what we call our “NCS One Family” stepped into the gap to be the hands and feet of Christ. The incredible response to use our gifts, talents, and hard work to love and serve those in need has been truly a Godly, Effective, and Excellent response by all.

Through an organized and balanced strategy to create “Serve Teams” to reach our “NCS One Family”, we had over 200 volunteers work on 25-30 NCS family sites, not including the many neighbors our volunteers helped “mud-out” their home, to prepare for the next phase of remediation and repair. In addition to the hard work that went into each damaged home-site, we also had “Serve Teams” and local businesses that we partnered with who were ready and available to provide laundry needs, deliver food, cleaning supplies at a moment’s notice. As one family communicated, “If it was not for the NCS organized relief efforts and the amazing crew that worked in our home for days, I do not know what we would have done, where we would have been, or how we could move forward with hope and promise. Thank you for providing calm in the middle of the storm.”

On Sunday night our “NCS One Family” and neighbors in the community took time to “pause”, as we gathered together to rest and be encouraged during a time of worship and prayer. We were reminded during this intentional time of leaning into and listening to God’s Word, that while our faith was being challenged, we serve a God who is not distant during a disaster. For He meets us right where we are in life, and reminds us that “all things are possible for one who believes”.

While we continue to serve each other and our neighbors, Northland Christian School has returned to school as we seek a new normal and routine for this school year. We will continue to monitor the needs communicated by Northland Christian School families and have provided a way to support those in need. Other private Christian schools from all over the country have also reached out to us, seeking to provide financial support in the short-term, followed by partnering with us in mission-work throughout our community that will be needed in the upcoming weeks, months, and years, as we make our community and the greater Houston area stronger than ever.

Northland Christian School asks that you continue to join us in prayer and support as we move forward as “One Family”, united with Christ, to love and support those in need. Even during this difficult time, God has drawn this community closer together, to be His “light” in our community. It is a great time to be a Northland Cougar.

Pray. Serve. Love.
