2017 Orchestra Concert was a spectacular show!

Last Thursday evening, the Northland Christian orchestras put on a spectacular show!! They played favorites like "A Charlie Brown Christmas", mashed up carols and movie themes or classical pieces, and introduced a new group of orchestra members! Despite challenges with Hurricane Harvey, the 3rd grade students learned 11 pieces in a very short amount of time for their orchestral debut. Hayden Miller performed a jazzy rendition of jingle bells on piano with 4th grade orchestra, followed by Christmas Sampler with 4th and 5th grade combined. Mr. Pruett, head of school, narrated 'Twas the Night Before Christmas with our 5th grade orchestra, and it was a fun piece, filled with sounds of mice, leaves flying, and reindeer on the roof. The Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras combined to bring us a mashup of James Bond and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and introduced our audience to the symphonic form with through sweet treats like "hot chocolate and peppermint bark". The chamber orchestra showed off their musicality and fine-tuned ensemble skills with Mozart's Alleluia, led by concertmaster Sara Zollo. The next mash up between In the Hall of the Mountain King and Deck the Halls definitely had the students on the edge of their seats. The strong cello section was featured in Christmas Cello-bration, and the group ended with a holiday staple, "Charlie Brown Christmas". Then all of the orchestra students, 3rd-12th grade, combined to perform Adeste Fideles, Joy to the World and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The concert was followed by a wonderful reception, hosted by the Fine Arts Society. Congratulations orchestras! Please feel free to join the Fine Arts Forum on Facebook for more pictures, videos and fine arts news.

Here are some links to videos and please enjoy the photos show below. Mrs. Kelly Hearn, Northland's orchestra director, is also a very talented photographer. Yearly she takes individual photos of 3rd graders and group shots of the other students. Great job Mrs. Hearn and congratulations to your talented students.
