In an effort to instill in each student the importance of college readiness, NCS counselors have visited all high school students during their English classes during the month of September. Each student was given a copy of his/her high school transcript, which includes the current grade point average (GPA), along with a copy of the Counselor’s Corner listing college and scholarship information. In addition, a sample resume was given to students and the importance of creating a quality resume was discussed. Our Dual Credit representative from Lone Star College, Katie Simpson, was also introduced to the students. Katie is a valuable asset and can help students not only with dual credit questions but can provide general college entrance and scholarship information as well. Freshmen: A strong academic, community service and extracurricular profile is what colleges and universities are wanting to see in applicants. Continue to build your resume and remember to keep a notebook with all your activities and awards listed. This log will be very helpful when you, as a senior, are applying to college. Sophomores: PSAT Test - Wednesday, October 14th and PLAN Test - Wednesday, October 28th Bring two sharpened #2 pencils, a calculator, a watch if you like, and a lightweight jacket or sweater. Juniors: PSAT Test - Wednesday, October 14th Make plans to visit prospective colleges or universities. Continue doing your best in your classes and working on earning service hours, perhaps with the goal of earning the Outstanding Community Service Award (100 hours required). Seniors: Apply Early! Apply Early! Apply Early! Many of you have already submitted applications to various universities and turned in transcript requests. Great job!
