Dress Code Update (email Thurs 8/30/07)
This year is off to an excellent start! Our students have been very compliant with the policies, and attitudes have been excellent! I would like to take a minute to remind everyone about a small section of the "Dress and Grooming Code" which may not be as familiar as others.
Shoes
Tennis shoes, leather shoes, leather sandals (no thong sandals, no small straps and/or high heels, no beach sandals, "flip-flops", or plastic shower shoes, no shoes with wheels) (not sold in Cougar Store)
I have added italics to "high heels" because we have had several of our young lady students wear them. In case the handbook seems a little vague on this issue, I wanted to offer some clarity on this matter. High heels are any shoes that have a heel that exceeds 1.5 inches in length (stiletto, wedge, platform, stack, etc.). This is included in the handbook for the safety of our girls. I thank you in advance for supporting my efforts in the enforcement of this policy. I will be glad to answer any questions that you may have. I hope you have an outstanding Labor Day Weekend!
Your Brother, David Nelson

Dear Parents,
The year has gotten off to an exciting start! I pray you and your family are blessed here at Northland. The Elementary Honor Choir is comprised of third, fourth, and fifth graders who must audition for membership. Please read and prayerfully consider the linked guidelines I have set out for this group and return the permission form if your child wishes to audition. My target number for the group is between 40-60 students. Last year's choir members MUST re-audition and are not guaranteed placement in the choir. If you have any questions, please e-mail or call me here at the school. I would be glad to discuss the elementary music program here at Northland with you. Thank you for your support of the fine arts in your child's education.

Changes to secondary Dress and Grooming Code (email date Thu 7/26/2007 11:54 AM)
Dear Parents:
It is my honor to serve as Associate Principal at Northland Christian School next year! There have been many preparations put into the forthcoming year that should pay dividends in making the 07-08 year one of the best ever. I honestly cannot wait for the new school year to begin.
One of the responsibilities of my new role at Northland is the enforcement of policies. It is without reservation that I say that I take this role very seriously because I firmly believe in excellence. The
middle name of our school is "Christian" which in my mind is synonymous with excellence. Those
who are excellent (Christian) should not be constantly late, defiant, immodest, abusive, quarrelsome,
or slothful, and I am sending this email to notify our parents that I will be holding our students to that standard. Also, I am aware that many in our community are preparing for the upcoming year so I wanted to make everyone aware of a few changes in our dress/grooming code so that everyone will be ready on the first day of school. Some changes are:
1. Skirt Length - For girls that are shorter than 5 feet, 3 inches tall, skirts must measure no more than 3 inches above the bend of the knee when measured from the back of the leg. For girls that are 5 feet, 3 inches tall or taller, skirts must measure no more than 4 inches from the bend of the knee when measured from the back of the leg.
2. Short Length - The Cougar Store has longer shorts in stock for our taller students. Please remember when purchasing shorts for boys that shorts cannot go below the bottom of the knee.
3. Hair Length - Boys hair must be above the eyebrows, above the middle of the ears, and above the top of the collar when combed straight down. Also, no extreme cuts or distracting styles (ex. excessive height greater than 2.5 inches, Mohawks, etc.) , shaved or sculpted designs or colors different from natural will not be allowed.
I thank everyone in advance for complying with these changes. I desire a great partnership with all of the parents to help make Northland Christian School the best that it can possibly be. I will be letting everyone know of other changes to the handbook via email and parents' meetings before the beginning of the year. Once again, I feel so privileged and humbled to be a part of your child's journey.
David Nelson, Secondary Campus Associate Principal
