*Distinguished Achievement Program Requirements (Advanced Measures)
Advanced Measures
• The measures must focus on demonstrated student performance at the college or
professional level.
• Student performance on advanced measures must be assessed through an external review
process.
• A student must achieve any combination of four of the following:
Test Data
- a score of three or above on an Advanced Placement (AP) exam. (A score of “three” or higher on four AP exams will meet the requirements.)
- a score on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT) that qualifies a student for recognition as a Commended Scholar or higher by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation; as part of the National Hispanic Scholar Program of The College Board; or as part of the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Students of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The PSAT score may count as only one advanced measure regardless of the number of honors received by the student.
Dual Credit Courses
- a grade of 80 or higher on any course that counts for college credit (Dual Credit courses).

Requirements for All High School Students
• All students at NCS are required to take Bible each year. Students transferring into NCS during their high school program are required to take Bible for only the semesters that they are enrolled in NCS.
• Students are expected to take 8 classes per semester.
• Two years of the same foreign language are required for the Recommended Diploma. Three years of the same foreign language is strongly recommended to enhance the student’s college profile and is required for the Distinguished Achievement Program.
• A math course must be taken every year during grades 9-12. If Algebra I is taken during the 8th grade, the student will have 5 math credits upon completion of the senior year.
• Students are required to earn 4 credits in science. It is recommended that a science course be taken each year of high school to enhance the student’s college profile. The 8th grade IPC course may be included as one of the 4 science credits only for the Recommended Diploma.
• Twenty service hours per year are required for all NCS high school students. Service-hour year extends from June 1st –April 30.
• All students enrolled in AP courses are required to take the AP exam. Students are responsible for the fee which is determined by the College Board.
• Dual credit courses require an additional fee which is determined by Lone Star College.
