Learning About the World Around Us

Multi-cultural Week has the 1st grade classes working on some pretty amazing art projects. Stop by Mrs. Goodrich’s room to see the display of “Wild and Wacky” mask. Students researched masks from around the world, from Louisiana to Mexico, even Africa. Students were given hard cardboard face molds, beads, gel pens, buttons, colored pebbles, pipe cleaners, feathers, colored plastic strings, and glitter glue and let their imaginations go to work! The results were some very interesting and sometimes scary looking mask!

If you see rain clouds forming over Mrs. Mitchen’s class, then their rain sticks just might be working! Students studied about the Chilean belief that shaking rain sticks brought rainstorms, and then they created their own! Using Pringle cans and filling them with rice, the students created their own rain sticks and colorfully decorated them using their own design. So carry an umbrella if you decide to stop in for a visit to Mrs. Mitchen’s room!
