The Junior Cougars came out to win today in their first District Volleyball match of the 2004 season!  Leading the way w/ their serving were Molly Dunn and Kristi Spoleti.  Kristi served 6 aces!  The rest of the team rallied around and put together a great game. Northland defeated Sweetwater Christian, 25-6 and 25 -5.  Way to go to the Middle School A team.

The Junior High A team takes the Covenant Christian Cougars to 3 games on Thursday night, but come up short in the 3rd game. Conroe Christian came in with a much larger squad and stronger players.  Full of the jitters at just seeing this team, the Cougars lost the first game 25-17.  In the second game,  Northland rallies back and is able to win, 25-19.  Unfortunately, we lost Molly Dunn to an injury and she is a key player for this team.  A good effort was given in the end, but the Cougars lost 15-13. Congratulations to Brittany Flowers for serving 11 points and to Ashley Sheffield for her leadership on the floor.  Better luck next time girls.

The Northland Christian Jr High Volleyball B Team played in the 4th Annual NCS Preseason Tournament Friday, September 10.  They defeated St. Anne's 2, Northeast Christian, and School of the Woods to become pool champions.  The B team went on to play for "bragging rights" against St. Anne's 1, but came up a few points short in a one game duel, 15-13.  Leading the team in serving was Kalee Francis.  Lauren Purcell and Christina Ball were also major assets to the Lady Cougars and their 6-1 performance.

The Junior Cougars defeated Cypress Christian tonight and looked good doing it!  The B team, led by Lauren Purcell and Hannah Davis, won in two games, 25-12 and 25-15.  6th grader, Christina Ball, is showing alot of potential for this team. The A team takes their 2nd district win tonight.  Ashley Sheffield served 17 straight points for the Cougars and had two nice attacks.  Hannah Krob, with the assistance of Kristi Spoletti, also had two strong hits.  The final score was 25-11 and 25-5. Keep it up girls!

The A and B teams both pull a win tonight against St. Edwards Catholic School.  Leading the B team on the court was Kalee Francis.  The game did not seem as close as the score indicates as the B team players were in control the whole time. The Cougars win, 25-22 and 25-20 The A team lost the first game to St. Edwards,
27-29.  The Monarchs have a very strong player, #3.  She was able to serve and spike.  But the Cougars rallied back and took the second game, 25-7 and the third game, 15-11.  8th graders, Molly Dunn and Ashley Sheffield,  led the team in serving, passing, and attacking.

The A team competed at Concordia on Saturday in an 8 team tournament.  The morning was made up of pool play and the Lady Cougars were 4-2.  This put us in the Championship bracket.  In a 3 game match against Honor Roll School, we came up short.  Great serving was done by Molly Dunn and a lot of improvement was seen in Shaunley Sharp.

The Jr. High B team suffered a loss to John Cooper because of our mistakes and miscommunications. As bad as it seemed, they were able to take the  Dragons to 3 games.  The final score put the Dragons on top.  The scores were 22-25, 25-23, 12-15.  Leaders on the floor for the Cougars were Sarah Steele, Summer Petro, and Lauren Purcell. The B team has a few kinks to work out, but I predict this team will have a winning record.

Coming off a rather discouraging finish in the Concordia tournament, the A team put themselves back together and played a beautiful match against John Cooper.  The Dragons play an attacking game, but could not get past our defense.  The Cougars defeated the Dragons, 25-15, 25-15. Kristi Spoleti and Hannah Krob were the two to watch in this game!

The Jr. Cougars traveled to Woodlands Academy Preparatory School  for their third district match.  The Wolverines have a very young team, and were no match for NCS.  The A team remains undefeated in the North Houston Athletic League with this win. The final score was 25-5 and 25-7. Outstanding serving was done by Hannah Krob and Brittany Flowers.

Lady Cougars take 2nd place at the St. Pius tournament!  The morning began w/ pool play and the girls won 7 out of 8 mini-games.  This put us first in our pool and took us to bracket play at 2:30 pm.  Northland defeated Corpus Christi and went on to play John Paul II.  The Cougars gave John Paul II a good run, but they had a very strong player that we could not overcome.  The Cougars lose 17-25, 16-25.  Super serving throughout the tournament by Molly Dunn and outstanding offensive play was seen by Kristi Spoletti.  The whole team is to be complimented for their efforts at this tournament.

Northland defeated the Sweetwater Crusaders in two, 25-12, 25-17.  Coming off a pressure Saturday of tournament play, it was hard for the girls to get up for this team.  However, Mary Lacy Knapp was able to rattle off 9 serves in a row and Ashley Sheffield led in ace serves.  Must mention, Shaunley Sharp, who played very well defensively.

The B team was able to defeat School of the Woods with little trouble.  The School of the Woods has 2 boys on its team, which at first can be intimidating.  No bother for this group of girls!  Northland soars past the eagles, 25-10, 25-14. Nice net play by Lauren Purcell, good serving by Summer Petro, and I have to mention our 6th graders, Paige Cornwell, Christina Ball, and Ashlyn Templeton, who all contributed to this win.

Traveled to Faith West for a district match; guess the 45 min. drive took something out of the team because they had a slow start.  Faith West scored 18 pts. before we got to 9!  But that's when Molly Dunn took over! Molly served pts. 10 - 18 and the momentum carried us to a victory, 25-22.  Suppose that took the wind out of their sails, and Northland took the second game easily,  25-10.

The Cougars traveled to the home of the Warriors and took care of business.  The B team played well and defeated CCCS in two games, 25-8, 25-18.  Much improved game play was seen in Cassie Robinson and great serving was done by Hannah Davis and Summer Petro.

Serving 7 in a row in the first game and 9 in a row in the second game, Molly Dunn led the Cougars in the A team defeat of CCCS. Actually, all the girls served well as we only had two service errors in the match!  The Cougars continue to shine in district.  The scores of this game were 25-13, 25-7.  Thanks to Sarah Steele and Summer Petro for stepping up to help the A team while Shaunley Sharp recovers from an ankle injury.

The B team completed their season with a win over W.A.P., 25-8 and 25-16.  All the girls got to play and contributed to this final victory.  Serving leaders were Lauren Purcell and Kalee Francis.  Several points came from the attacking game of Sarah Steele and Summer Petro. Under the direction of Coach Carrie,
the B team finishes their season with a 6-1 record, losing only in a squeaker to John Cooper.  They were pool winners in the Northland Christian Tournament and undefeated in their district matches.  Great season, ladies!

The A team finishes w/ a perfect record in the District when they defeated Faith West in a close match
The first game was a loss for the Cougars, 22-25, and serving was our down fall.  We had 6 service errors. After a good "talking to" by Coach Carrie, things changed!  One service error in the second game and the Cougars are on to a victory finishing with 25-16 and 15-5. Northland has been a part of the North Houston Athletic League for 4 years.  This district win cinched the district title for the 4th year in a row!
Go Lady Cougars!

The A team finished their season at the district tournament.  After defeating CCCS, 25-5, 25-17, we met Faith West in the Championship match.  The Eagles had only suffered loss to the Cougars, so they were geared up for us, and if we were not focused, this is a team that could beat us. Your Cougars did not let you down!  In a close first game, 25-23, Brittany Flowers and Molly Dunn took control of the serving game.  In the second game, the Cougars were in the lead early led by Kristi Spoleti's attacking game and the passing game of Mary Lacy Knapp and Brittany Flowers.  The match ended in the second game with a score of 25-13.  The A team continued the Northland tradition of District Champs and District Tournament Champs.  Congratulations to each member of this team!
