Two long days of VB, but our team did beautifully!! Friday Pool Play put us 2nd behind Bay Area Christian, but there was no shame in that. They are a very good team.
Saturday, we played in the Gold Bracket and met Bay Area in the Championship match. The Cougars fought hard, but fell short in the first game by 2 pts. Unfortunately, that gave the Broncos just enough momentum to take the second game. I am so proud of all my players. Each one played a pivotal part in this tournament.
Katie Martin and Annie Kraner were chosen as All Tournament players.
Saturday scores: NCS vs. Alpha Omega 25-11, 18-25, 15-5 / NCS vs. SATCH 25-14, 25-23 / NCS vs. BAC 25-27, 20-25 |

| Traveled to Covenant to play another District match. I had heard they had a "big" girl and they did. She definitely made a difference, but our team just did not seem to be on; passing errors cost us the match. Highlight of the evening was the serving by Kendall McCreary! In the 2nd game, she served 21 in a row. WOW!! |

I set some team goals for the C team and they met 3 out of 4. We set up attacks, got some serving aces, and had 1 very nice play at the net. Fell short of the "missed serve" goals, but even so, the Cougars were able to defeat the opponent in 2 games. Spotlight goes to Erika and Rachel Tosh for consistent serving,

2nd in Pool Play |
Our A team is a good team. Today, we were missing players and never really found a rhythm. But, we still played well enough to take 2nd in Pool Play. We were 6-2. This put Northland in the Championship Bracket.
First round - Northland defeated St. Mark's A team 17-13, 17-13. Semi-Finals - Northland vs. Cypress - 1st game went well for us, 17-9. 2nd game was a struggle and we lost 8-17. Tie breaker knocks the Cougars out, 9-19.
Highlights: Katie Martin, a monster block. Agustina Vazquez, a block. Annie Kraner, served 17 in a row, winning one of the pool games 17-0! |

The B team won in two games. 25-13, 25-20. Serving Superstar was Desi Diaz with 19 points served over the two games.
Always a big game planned when meeting the Warriors at Cypress Christian. The A team had just suffered a loss to them on Saturday so we come in at a disadvantage. The 1st game is neck to neck, but we pull ahead at the end when Keely serves pts. 23, 24, 25. In the 2nd game, the Cougars are playing with confidence and take control. Only 1 serving error in this game.
Highlight: Bethany Dennison finds her "game" - gets a monster block, passing well, and serves 13 times wo/ an error. Must also mention our newest member, Emily Herman - she passed up some hard hits today. |

| The B team went to St. Anne's for a Tournament over the weekend. Friday was a hard day as the girls lost the first match against Northwoods (23-25, 23-25) and then lost against SEAS (23-25, 23-25). This put the team in fourth place going into bracket play on Saturday. The girls fought hard on Saturday. The first Match was against St. Edwards and the girls pulled off a win (25-19, 25-17). This moved them up in the bracket to play SEAS again. The girls won in three hard fought games (25-19,14-25, 18-16). That win put them into the Championship game against St. Anne's. The girls pulled together and played well to win 1st place in three games (25-22, 23-25, 15-10). |

| I saw this Cooper team play at the Concordia Tournament and thought they would be a good match for us. The Dragons are a well coached team with good players. But, the Cougars gave them a game! I told one parent, "we won and looked good doing it". We played so well today, our floor coverage was very good. Highlight: Agustina Vazquez. She played all around - set, hit, dig, serve and did a very good job. Rachel Hardy - took some hard hit balls and picked them up -way to go. Good job to all! |

The C team finished fantastically! We played so well that we were able to defeat EVERY team we played! Compliments came from many of the other schools about what a good team Northland was. I couldn't have asked for any more. =)
Highlight: Chandler Frakes served 55 times and only missed 2! Against First Baptist, she served 20 in a row. Marvelous!

Friday, Oct. 15 - Northland is ranked #2 going into the tournament, losing 1 game to Covenant Christian in District play. Our first game is against the #7 seed, Rosehill. While this team does have some streaks of good play, Northland wins easily, 25-7 and 25-13.
Saturday, Oct. 16 - Northland plays the #3 seed, Cypress Christian. I can always expect a good match when these teams meet. The competition is exciting. Annie Kraner and Katie Martin serve well and the Cougars win 25-15 and 25-19.
The upset of the day came when the #4 seed, SATCH, beat the #1 seed, Covenant. This was such an exciting game and it meant that Northland played the Mavericks for the Championship. We had beaten them in regular season play, but this team is playing extremely well today!
In the first game, the Cougars are not serving as well as usual, but Jordan Herman has decided to turn on the jets. Her game is on and she takes care of the net, Bethany Dennison is playing well all around. Cougars win 25-20. In the next game, the Cougars begin slow and are behind until Katie Martin serves 6 in a row, 2 of them are aces. This sets the Cougars in motion. The game finished w/ a score of 25-23 and the Cougars capture the Tournament Championship again.
This team played well together all season. While we lost 4 games, I really feel only one team was better than we were. We had several games where players were missing and the others were able to pick up the slack. It will be a memorable season for the players and the coaches.
FINAL RECORD: 16-4. |
