Thurs. 8/27 Rosehill (Scrimmage) A A 4:00 W 25-9 / 25-7
Opening game is a scrimmage with Rosehill Christian. The A team looked pretty good in this early match. Cougars win 25-9, 25-7.
Tues. 9/1 Abiding Word A C 4:30 W 25-15 / 25-16
B 5:30 W 25-16 / 25-22
Good opener for the B and C teams. The Northland Cougars defeated the Abiding Word Cougars in two games.
The C team was led by Chandler Fleming, who had a very good game all around. We had one successful attack with Brieanna Aplin finishing the play. Score: 25-15, 25-16
The B team was led by Shelby Werderich, who served 14 in a ro!! Score: 25-16, 25-22
Thurs. 9/3 North East H A 4:30 W 25-6 / 25-9
HCYA C 5:30 L 18-25 / 17-25
A Team: From the looks of the Northeast team, we were going to have our work cut out for us. They were tall and athletic-looking. But after seeing them play, you could tell they were an inexperienced team and the A team had no trouble winning their first District match.
Score: 25-6, 25-9. Only 7 service errors in the match - kuddos go to Payton Brown and Catie Eichler for the most consistent servers tonight.

C Team: Our serving cost us this match. I think the two teams were fairly evenly matched, Northland just couldn't get going. We had 15 service errors! Guess I know what we will do in practice tomorrow. =) Score: 18-25, 17-25 Outstanding player today was Jordan Herman.
Fri. 9/4 NCS Tournament H B 4:30 T 15-17 / 15-10
C 5:30
Both B and C teams played some very compeititive teams tonight.
The C team started out slow but finished well. I was proud of their movement on the floor and I think you can definitely see some improvement over two weeks.
The B team won their pool by winning a tough tie-breaking match against the Extreme Black team. The next match was for "bragging rights" it was against the Extreme Purple team. These teams were very even. We split the match but I have to say, I think we played exceptionally well. Score: 15-17, 15-10
Most valuable for the last game was Annie Massey.
Tues. 9/8 Faith West H B 4:30 W 25-8 / 25-14
A 5:30 W 25-11 / 25-15
Both the A and B teams handled Faith West with ease tonight. Have to admit, I had butterflies since this was the team that took the Championship from us last year. Our girls performed well and the victory was ours!
B team highlights: Very good serving by Shelby Werderich and Sydney Waldon.
Score: 25-8, 25-14
A team highlights: Some nice attack set-ups; this requires good passing, setting, and hitting and all of the girls had a chance to be a part of this.
Serving kudos go to Amanda Organ. Score: 25-11, 25-15
Sat. 9/12 St. Anne's Tournament A C TBA Runner-up
We started at 8:25 this morning with our first game of pool play. The C team went undefeated in pool play, took a lunch break, and came back to play in the Championship bracket.
Won the semi-final against St. Anne, 25-15, 25-15.
Championship game: a good team lost to a good team, but Coach Lemm was so proud of the girls that she treated herself to a pedicure! Thank you girls. =)
St. Mary's was the tournament champion and Northland was the runner-up.
Score 19-25, 19-25
Tournament Highlights: Chandler Fleming is chosen as an All Tournament player. Jessica Allen and Brieanna Aplin (she served 15 in a row) have their best games of the season.
Brittany Dela Cruz and Marina Fragkias most consistent servers.
Mon. 9/14 SATCH H B 4:30 W 25-15 / 25-20
A 5:30 W 25-11 / 23-25 / 15-10
Both of our teams probably looked better in practice today - GRRR. We had some streaks though and I was confident both teams would win. We are setting up the ball for the attack consistently and that is a plus. Weakness was probably just a lack of focus.
B team wins in two games, 25-15, 25-20
A team wins in three games, 25-11, 23-25, 15-10
Tues. 9/15 Abiding Word A C 4:30 W 25-3 / 26-16
A 5:30 W 25-12 / 25-6
The C team came into the Abiding Word gym and just took care of business!
They are playing much more confidently. Score: 25-3,26-16
Jesse Allen plays better all around - she served 10 in a row!

The A team is trying to run a more advanced offense, the 6-2. We tried it out tonight and even though we had some kinks, it looked pretty good. Score: 25-12, 25-6
Amanda Organ serves 10 in a row.
Thurs. 9/17 Covenant H A 4:30 W 25,11 / 25-16
Oh Boy! Here comes another team of BIG girls and that always makes you pause since we certainly can't be considered BIG girls. =) However, we played big and were able to pull our 3rd District win. Score: 25-11, 25-16
Must mention Catie Eichler - she is definitely stepping up and played outstanding defense tonight. Taylor Huff plays her best game of the season.
Sat. 9/19 Concordia Lutheran Tourney A A TBA W Win Tourney
click for photo
The A team begins pool play this morning at 9:30 and finished around 2:30.
We defeated Salem Lutheran B / John Cooper A / St. Marks B / and split with Trinity A.
Bracket play begins and the Semi-finals puts us against Cooper B. Due to some outstanding serving by all of our team, we defeat the Dragons 25-15, 25-15.
In the Finals, we meet Trinity again. This is a very good team and we have had two injuries - Amanda is playing with a sore foot and Katie is playing with a jammed thumb. We played well, had only one service error, but lost in a close one 20-25. Game two - we talk about playing smarter. Caroline is serving well in this game and Northland wins 25-18.
Game three is for the Championship. The Northland girls fight through a great match, diving, hitting, serving well and win 15-13.
Every member of our team contributed to this success. Congratulations!!
Mon. 9/21 Woodlands Christian H B 4:30 W 25-8, 25-10
A 5:30 W 25-10, 25-9
Both the B and A teams looked good tonight. All team members were playing pretty well and we easily defeated the Warriors of Woodlands Christian. Agus led the serving for the B team. Score: 25-8, 25-10
Caroline Casale and Bethany Dennison were the leading servers for the A team.
Score: 25-10, 25-9
Tues. 9/22 Holy Trinity H A 4:30 W 25-10, 25-8
Sure am glad I coach an indoor sport! The weather was messy today.
The A team took a road trip to Holy Trinity, won two games, and returned home.
All the girls are playing well - I believe everyone of them were able to hit the ball!
Good setting by Amanda, Katie, and Carley. Score 25-10, 25-8
Thurs. 9/24 Cypress Christian H B 4:30 W 21-25, 25-16, 15-13
A 5:30 W 21-25, 25-14, 15-3
What a great night of VB! You can always expect a good game when Cypress comes to the gym, but this was a really good one.

Both the A and B teams had some competition from the Warriors. In our first game, the score was neck to neck and Cypress pulled ahead at the end to win.
In the second game, the Cougars took control and never gave it up.
Outstanding play on the B team - Agus - she had some amazing hits.
Also, on the B team, Keely Abt plays a nice net game as the setter in game 2.
As a coach, I was most impressed with the movement on the court.

The A team is playing short for awhile. Amanda, a key player on this team, was injured over the week-end, and is out, but the rest of the team picked up the slack. Great serving by Catie Eichler and Katie Martin. Both Bethany and Taylor Huff get their hands up for a block. Caroline Casale and Payton Brown come in on the attack. And Annie Kraner and Carley Pope pick up the slack every time we need it. What a great team the Lord has blessed us with.
Score for the B team: 21-25, 25-16, 15-13
Score for the A team: 21-25, 25-14, 15-3
Sat. 9/26 Abiding Word Lutheran Tourney A B TBA W First Place Winner!

The NCS B team faced Abiding Word as their first rival in the Abiding Word Tournament It was a good match up. Shelby W. served eight consecutive points and Alex Pope served six consecutive serves. With several other great serves from Annie Massey and Shelby Tate, the B team beat Abiding word in two games 25-10 and 25-22.

The next team the B team faced was Christ the Lord. The team once again served well with Rachel Hardy serving 10 straight points in the first game, and Alex Pope serving 9 good serves in the second game. Jasmine Barnes and Meredith Heim also served well in this match up. Games were won 25-6 and 25-11.

This left us ready for the first place match up against Salem. The first game was a landslide with Sydnee Walden serving 13 consecutive points. The second game was played with great defense and great serves with Annie Massey serving 9 points. First place was clinched with wins of 25-13 and 25-16.

The girls were the only undefeated team at the tournament and a step ahead of all other teams. I am proud of the sportsmanship and team spirit they showed at the tournament.

Mon. 9/28 Woodlands Prep A A 4:30 W Score: 25-6, 25-9
Not much competition here so we try to focus on improving a part of our game. Today, it was target serving. Caroline served 13 in a row - well done. We also let a couple of different girls play setter. Score: 25-6, 25-9
Mon. 9/29 Northwoods Catholic A C 4:00 T 7-15, 15-11
B 4:45 W 15-6, 15-9, 12-15
Woodlands Prep A 4:30
6th gr. vs. Northwoods Catholic 9/29
We have played this team before and beaten them, but between illness and being a bit rusty, we split with them. This was a quick game because we had several girls that had to get to the Fall Choir Concert. Score: 7-15, 15-11
The B team squeezed in 3 games to 15 before the "singers" ran off to perform.
Shelby Cohron was back and played very well tonight.
Score: 15-6, 15-9, 12-15
Fri. 10/2 Rosehill Christian H A 4:00 W 25-9, 25-21
This is our final district game and we win it easily. We worked on our back row attack and for having little practice with it, I think we did well.
The score to the second game looks close, but the girls will tell you, we lost focus. =( Score: 25-9, 25-21
The Cougars are undefeated in District play and will enter the District Tournament as the #1 seed.
Sat. 10/3 St. Francis Episcopal Day
School Tournament
A C TBA Tourney Winner!
The 6th gr. team finishes their season at the St. Francis Episcopal Day School tournament. Our pool puts us against Presbyterian School, St. Francis White, and St. Francis Blue. Our record of 4-2 is good enough to put us in the Championship game.
We play St. Francis Blue and win 25-20, 25-19.
A great finish for this team and everyone contributed in their own way. Our team lost very few games this season. In regular game play, we were 4-2 and in pool play, we were 9-5. Way to go, Cougars!!
Fri. 10/6 HCYA H A 4:30 L 25-12, 20-25, 13-15
The Cougars took one on the chin today. Passing errors really cost us the game. However, lessons can be learned from a loss ~ it is our job to re-group and prepare for the rest of the season. Highlights tonight have to include Katie Martin falling on the floor and picking up 2 or 3 balls in a row (too funny) and Beth Dennison putting 3 good ones down while playing at the net.
Score: 25-12, 20-25, 13-15
Fri. 10/8 Trinity Lutheran A A 4:30 L 16-25, 25,21, 13-15
Well, we were defeated tonight by a good team but I don't think we played our best game. On a positive note, Katie Martin stepped up as a leader today.
Score: 16-25, 25,21, 13-15
Tues. 10/13 St. Anne's H B 4:30 L 25-19, 24-26, 13-15
A 5:30 L 19-25, 25-19, 10-15

What an exciting night of Volleyball! The B team goes in w/ a perfect record of 8-0. Unfortunately, St. Annes took our season final in three games. The girls played well, we just fell a little short. Score: 25-19, 24-26, 13-15
Our 8th graders were recognized tonight for their final MS game. Good serving by Rachel Hardy and great net play by Meredith Heim. Congratulations on a great season girls ~ I am very proud of you.

The A team also fell to St. Annes but I was not disappointed in their game. We certainly improved some things since we played Trinity but St. Annes had a serious hitter and we weren't quite there for the pick up. Very nice serving by Katie Martin and Taylor Huff. Very nice net play by Bethany Dennison. And probably the highlight was a rolling dig to pick up a ball by Katie and an out of bounds play by Carley Pope. Score: 19-25, 25-19, 10-15
8th graders were recognized by their parents for their final home game. Tournament play begins on Friday.

Thurs. 10/
15-17
District Tourney A A TBA W Championship Win!

NHAL District Tournament

The road to the Championship game had us playing the #8 seed, Holy Trinity, on Friday afternoon. This team has several 5th graders on it so this match went easily. Outstanding defensive play by Carley Pope. Score 25-10, 25-3

Saturday at noon, we met the #5 seed, Faith West Academy. Boy, have they improved since our last meeting! But, that is what the District Tournament is all about. Stand-out serving by Caroline Casale and Taylor Huff for this mach. It takes 3 games but we win, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12.

At 3:00, we take the #2 ranked team, Cypress Christian. This game will be good because of the rivalry and the ability of both teams. Caroline Casale and Payton Brown take the lead in serving. We played well, passing, setting, hitting and were able to win in two. Catie Eichler and Katie Martin lead in the serving game. Beth Dennison has an impressive game at the net. Score 25-16, 25-18.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: NCS vs. CCS (again) Northland took control from the beginning. We played well mentally and physically and won easily, 25-6, 25-15.
This was a great season. Our talent was fairly evenly distributed with many players able to take on dual roles. Our girls were undefeated in district play, 13-0 and final record was 16-3. Congratulations to everyone of you!
