| On Monday, Aug. 29, the A team opened their season with a scrimmage against the Saints of Salem-Lutheran. The Saints, an 8th grade team, gave the Lady Cougars a good game. The Cougars took the Saints to 3 games but our team, a mix of 6, 7, and 8th grade students, came up a few points short. I see lots of possibility in the A team. The score was 22-25 and 25-19 and 9-15. |

Tuesday, Aug. 30, took both the A and B team to the John Cooper School. A big case of nerves for the B team! The Dragons defeated the Cougars 15-25 and 18-25. I was encouraged to see a "fighting spirit" on the floor from this team and their improvement in the second game. Leading scorers in this game were 6th grader, Brianna Pierce, and 7th grader, Ashlyn Templeton. The A team took the Dragons to 3 and came out on top! These two teams matched up very well and the Cougars lost the first game 21-25, came back in the second game, 25-23, and rose to the task in game three to win, 15-10. Leading the team in serving were Christina Ball and Summer Petro. Most valuable player was Hannah Krob. Hannah kept her head in a tight match and lead her team in several areas. |

Thursday, Sept. 1, found the A team competing against the Cougars of Covenant Christian. My goodness! What a tall group of girls! First impressions gave us a bit of concern. But in a great match, all girls playing well, Northland defeated the Covenant Cougars, 25-15 and 25-18. Leading the team in serving were Hannah Krob and Paige Cornwell. Most valuable players were Christina Ball and Sarah Steele. These two girls kept us ahead with their passing and hitting. |

| Friday, Sept, 9, marked the 5th Annual NCS Pre-Season VB tournament. Due to a late arrival by the B team from the MS retreat, the girls took a while to get going. Northland lost their early matches to St. Francis and St. Anne's, but were able to pull themselves together and defeat Faith West in the last match. Outstanding play was seen by 6th grader, Madison Zeinert. |

The Cougars took the Warriors to 3 games, but came up short both times. B team member, Ashlyn Templeton, gave the Cougars a spark when she served points 17 - 22 in the first game. The scores were 25-16, 12-25, and 14-16. |

| The A team competed in the Concordia Lutheran tournament on Sat., Sept. 17. A slow start in the morning, against some pretty tough competition, put the Cougars in the Consolation bracket. But they won that and brought home the first trophy of the 2005 season! This coming Saturday, the A team will be playing in the St. Pius tournament All the girls got playing time. Real leadership was shown by Brittany Flowers and solid serving was seen by all. |

| Monday, Oct. 3, the Lady Cougars had a defining day! Both teams put together a winning game plan to beat the Warriors of Cypress Community Christian. Few service errors on the B team kept them focused. Leading in serves were Taylor Brown and Rebecca Mathews. The final scores were 25-17 and 25-11. On the last meeting w/ the Warriors the Cougars fell short. Well, we had a quite different story tonight! Brittany Flowers and Hannah Krob kept the Lady Cougars in the game with some nice offensive moves. Some great defensive movement was seen by Amy South and super serving by Sarah Steele gave us the win in 2 games. The final scores were 25-22 and 25-5. |

| Tuesday took us over to Woodlands Academy Preparatory. The B team fell short in the scoring category, but I think it was one of their better games. Again, very few serving errors and we had one attack by Leslie Lewis that impressed us all. 6th grader, Katie Paschal has joined this team and will be making a big difference as a setter and overhand server. Final score: 19-25 and 17-25. The A team took care of business and even had 2 kills. Brittany Flowers and Sarah Steele were attacking well with the help of setters, Hannah Krob and Paige Cornwell. Final score: 25-10 and 25-12. |

| Two wins for the Cougars tonight vs. Holy Trinity. This young team really did not offer much resistance to either team. All B team members were able to play and play alot. Two 6th graders, Lauren Mozey and Lindsey Anderson, impressed us all with their serving. Final score: 25-10 and 25--8. The A team was trying some new things tonight - jump serving! Success for Hannah Krob and Sarah Steele! We only had 6 players tonight and the first successful attack went to Cassie Robinson. Final score: 25-8 and 25-4. |

1st place in the District |
| The A team went into this match with a dose of overconfidence and the Eagles took the first game. After an attitude adjustment, the Cougars were able to win the next two. Tonight's win put us in 1st place in the District, tied with Cypress Community. The tournament on Saturday will determine who takes home the District Championship as well as the District Tournament Championship. |

District Championship Winners! Congratulations Junior Cougars! |
| Tournament Time - the A team meets the Eagles of Faith West in the first round. A slow start puts us down in the first game 19-25. The second game was in our favor and a good serving game by Paige Cornwell gave us the lead, score 25-18. The third game, again, was not easy but the Cougars won 15-8 and went to the Championship match. Thinking we would be playing CCCS for all the gold, we were quite surprised to find ourselves matched up with Woodlands Academy Prep. The first game was a close one, and it took all of the girls to win it, substitutions were being made regularly. Summer Petro came helped on the back row. At this point, the Cougars had momentum and confidence and took the second game 25-12. This whole team, each girl, played to win this championship. It is the 5th year in a row that Northland has won the District Championship and the District Tournament. I am very proud of the efforts put into winning this season; I must say there were some who did not think we could do it. Way to go, Junior Cougars! |
