The Lady Cougars knew they would have a fight on their hands when they faced the number 2 team in the district. The Lady Eagles of Second Baptist came in with an impressive record but the Lady Cougars were ready to play. We got off to a slow start allowing 3 runs in the first and 4 runs in the second. We committed five of our eight errors in the first two innings. However, we started to make the routine plays on the field and gave ourselves a chance to come back. We finally woke our bats up in the fourth inning and managed to score one run off of junior Marissa Hernandez’s hit down the left field line. In the sixth inning we put together a five run rally with two outs. The inning started with two walks and we loaded the bases. Senior Brittany Flowers hit her third single of the game to get the scoring started. Sophomore Madison Flowers then hit her second single of the game to bring in another run. Senior Sarah Steele stepped up and singled to score two more runs. The inning ended after we had mounted an incredible comeback to bring the game to within one run. We allowed another run to score in the top of the seventh and were unable to score ourselves. The game ended with a score of 6 – 8.
Offensively we had our best game of the season recording a season high for hits. Brittany and Madison accounted for five of our hits, while Sarah and Marissa each added one. Senior Hannah Davis also had a single to bring the total of hits to eight. Madison continues to improve on the mound. She recorded a season high eight strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Also, of the eight runs that scored only three of them were allowed runs.
I was very proud of the girls for the heart they showed throughout this game. Although we made some mistakes we never gave up and continued to believe that we could win.
