The Lady Cougars were looking for their first win in district when they faced the Lady Lions of Lutheran North. Offensively we struggled with the velocity of the pitcher from LHN.
After one trip through the line up the girls began to see the ball better and get their bat on the ball but every hit seemed to go right to someone. Senior catcher Sarah Steele and sophomore pitcher Madison Flowers led the team with individual singles. However, we just could not seem to put any hits together to get any girls across the plate. Lutheran North jumped out to an early lead of 1 – 0 after the first inning. Defensively we had a few players in new positions and we struggled to make the routine plays. These errors cost up dearly as the Lady Cougars piled on the runs in the third and fourth innings. The final score was 12 – 0.
Once again we will look to use this game as a learning experience. Madison continues to improve on the mound. She is progressively getting better with pitch placement and getting hitters to hit into outs. Defensively we will continue to work on making the routine outs in order to shorten the time we spend on the field. Offensively we need to be more aggressive at the plate.
