Although the weather outside was cold and overcast there was plenty of excitement to pump the crowd up when the Lady Cougars took on Ft. Bend Baptist. The Lady Eagles came into this game undefeated and with one of the best pitchers in Houston. No other team in the district has even been able to manage more than 2 hits or 2 runs against the Lady Eagles. However, none of this mattered to the Lady Cougars as they took the field with something to prove - they deserve to be in the hunt for the playoffs. The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first inning scoring three runs. The Lady Cougar defense held tough after that, committing only two errors and making several great plays. In the second inning the Lady Eagles were looking to capitalize off of a bunt but instead the Lady Cougars got the out at first and senior Lindsey Serres came up with a great throw to third baseman Kelsey Hickman to get the runner out at third for an inning ending double play. In the fifth inning with one run the Lady Eagles again looked to catch the defense sleeping when after singling to left the runner attempted to go to second but junior Ashley Scott threw to Serres to get the runner at second. This provided a huge momentum swing that carried over to the offense. Senior Molly Wahlberg stepped up with the first hit of the game and advanced to second with a steal. With two outs sophomore Jessica Maddox singled to right center to score Wahlberg to put the Lady Cougars on the board with one. With Maddox at first junior Ashley Scott singled to advance Maddox to scoring position. With the threat of another run scoring the Lady Eagles called a time out and managed to get out of the inning without another run crossing the plate. In the top of the sixth the Cougar defense continued to hold strong when senior Kate Terry ran down what would have been a sure double to end the inning and another scoring opportunity for the Lady Eagles. In the top of the seventh the Lady Eagles started the inning with a triple and managed another run on a fielders choice. Going into the bottom of the seventh the Lady Cougars knew they still had a chance to win the game. Hickman started the inning with a hard hit ball to short and reached on an error. Wahlberg then singled again with a hit to right center. Senior Summer Steele moved the runners into scoring position with a hit to short. With two outs Scott stepped to the plate. With the infield playing back Scott laid down a perfect bunt. Pitcher Rachel Fox fielded the ball and overthrew first allowing both Hickman and Wahlberg to score. Scott never stopped running as the errant throw went all the way to the outfield. With the chance to tie the game Scott headed home but was thrown out on a perfect throw from the second baseman. Although this game goes down as a loss the Lady Cougars could walk off the field with their heads held high. Scoring three runs and getting five hits the Lady Cougars did something no one else has in the district thus far.

Again, the Lady Cougars showed just how much heart they have. It doesn't matter who we were playing the girls go into every game knowing they can win. At no point have they ever given up during a game or an inning and as a coach I could not ask for more.NCS vs. Lutheran North: lost 5 - 12 (Record 7 - 11 / 3 - 8)

There was a lot of excitement in the air as the Lady Cougars looked to upset Lutheran North in their bid for the post season. And despite their efforts the Lady Cougars came up short scoring only 5 runs while allowing 12. Offensively we were lead by senior Molly Wahlberg who went 2 for 4 with two singles. Following her lead were sophomore Laura Ashley and seniors Kate Terry and Lindsey Serres, each of whom had singles. Defensively the Lady Cougars struggled committing five errors which allowed the Lady Crusaders to score 12 runs.

Despite the loss the Lady Cougars took the time tonight to recognize the four seniors who have been a large part of this program for the past four years. These seniors have provided great leadership this season both on the field and off. As a coach I could not have asked for a more solid and Godly group of young women than these to lead this team in my first season. It has been a true blessing, honor and privilege to coach these girls.
