The Lady Cougars played another tough district opponent in Lutheran North but still came up a little short losing the game 2 - 7. Defensively we struggled committing several errors in the field that led to most of Lutheran North's runs. However, there were also some spectacular defensive plays made. Senior center fielder Kate Terry made two great catches that prevented runs from scoring both times. Also, sophomore Laura Ashley had a great diving play to help end a scoring rally. Offensively the Lady Cougars struggled early but never gave up. In the last three innings of the game we started to hit the ball solidly. Sophomores Megan Schulte and Kelsey Hickman both had stand up triples and senior Lindsey Serres followed that with a double. Senior Molly Wahlberg did her best to contribute with two singles. Although this was not our best performance I was incredibly proud of the fact that these ladies never gave up. I was especially proud of our pitcher Ashley Sheffied. Despite getting hit hard in the knee while batting she finished the game strong on the mound. I was also proud of the character and class that these ladies displayed on the field when it would have been very easy not to. With the first round of district almost over I expect great things from these ladies over the next few weeks.
