The Lady Cougars played a great game against Concordia Lutheran on Friday. The game proved to be a defensive battle for both teams. Both teams remained scoreless until the 5th inning when Concordia scored 2 runs. Senior Kate Terry made an excellent catch in center field and threw a bullet to get the runner out at third. However, the officials saw the play differently and the runner was called safe. The Lady Cougars kept battling though and started hitting the ball hard but unfortunately the ball seemed to go right at Concordia's players. Concordia added two more runs in the top of the 7th and the Lady Cougars just could not find a way to get any runs on the board. However, this did not mean that we didn't hit the ball well. Senior first baseman Summer Steele hit a hard double over the center fielder's head to account for the only extra base hit of the game. Senior Lindsey Serres and sophomore Kelsey Hickman made great contact with the ball hitting what would have been at least a double for both. Unfortunately the Lady Crusaders made some great catches to steal those hits away. Despite some questionable calls by the officials the Lady Cougars played and reacted with incredible class and character. The girls did exactly as I asked them, they played with heart and character and they never gave up.
