NCS vs. SATCH
In their first official home game the Lady Cougars continued to feed off the confidence of their win from the previous day. Taking the field against SATCH the Lady Cougars went down 1-0 in the first inning. However, that lead did not last long as sophomore Laura Ashley started the inning off with a triple. Sophomore Kelsey Hickman executed a perfect bunt to get runners in scoring position at second and third. Senior Lindsey Serres then stepped into the box and hit a triple off the right field fence to score both Ashley and Hickman. Serres latter stole home on a past ball to end the inning with a score of 3-1. The Lady Cougars never released their lead for the remainder of the game and ended the game with a score of 8-3. Several players had extra base hits including Laura Ashley with a triple and a double, Lindsey Serres with a triple and Molly Wahlberg with a double. Serres and Ashley led the team offensively both going 2-2. Ashley Sheffield continued her great performance on the mound as she improved her record to 1 – 1.
NCS vs. Duchesne
The Lady Cougars took the field early Saturday morning against the Chargers of Duchesne. The Lady Cougars again found themselves down in the middle of the first inning 2 – 0. However, it didn't take the them long to get their bats going to make the score 2 – 3. Duchesne came back in their next two at bats to make the score 4 – 3. However, the Lady Cougars displayed excellent composure at the plate. With one out the offense was ignited when senior Summer Steele hit a double to get a runner in scoring position. Senior Molly Wahlberg followed that with a double of her own to tie the score 4 – 4. Then with two outs junior Ashley Scott stepped to the plate and hit a double of her own to give the Lady Cougars the lead. The defense then stepped up to support the pitching of Ashley Sheffield to secure the victory. Freshman Sarah Steele is again to be congratulated for her effort and willingness to do whatever the team needs her to do. With and injury the prevented junior Ashley Scott from playing defense Sarah stepped in and played left field for the Lady Cougars. Without one word of complaint Sarah did an outstanding job making several clutch outs and playing the position as though she were a regular outfielder.
NCS vs. Incarnate Word
In their second game of the day the Lady Cougars began to look more confident than ever as they took the field against Incarnate Word. With each passing game the Lady Cougars defense and offense have continued to improve. This game proved to be no exception. Although Incarnate Word went up 1 – 0 in the second inning the Lady Cougars continued to show the composure they have displayed in the previous two days and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second. The rally was started with a single by freshman Sarah Steele and followed by singles from sophomores Megan Schulte, Laura Ashley and senior Lindsey Serres. Defensively the Lady Cougars are really beginning to pull together and play as a team limiting the number of errors for the weekend to 5 for three games. The outfield also really began to pull together. Each play from the infield was supported by excellent back up coverage by our outfield. Although it is still early in the season the Lady Cougars are showing signs of what they are capable of. Each game the Lady Cougars look to improve on some aspect of their game and have done a remarkable job of that these past four days.
