Although the game did not count towards their record the Lady Cougars played as though it did. The Lady Cougars took on the Lady Dragons from John Cooper for their first home game of the season. This was an offensive battle for both teams. John Cooper went ahead 2-0 in their first at bat but the Lady Cougars came back and tied it in the bottom of the first. In their next at bat the Lady Dragons scored 3 more to make it 5-2. The Lady Cougars came back and scored 2 to make the score 5 – 4. In the next inning the Lady Dragons scored another run to make it 6 – 4. In their last at bat the Lady Cougars came together as a team to make a remarkable comeback. With a runner on third and two outs the Lady Cougars rallied to score 5 runs. All that was needed now was for the defense of the Lady Cougars to come together to back up the excellent pitching job of Ashley Sheffield, and that is just what they did. Allowing only one more run to score the Lady Cougars walked off the field victors. Although the game will not count towards their official record due to the fact that there were no officials this game did wonders for the Lady Cougars confidence. Ashley Sheffield did an outstanding job on the mound and freshman Sarah Steele is to be congratulated on her play at second. Having never played the position before she was added to the starting lineup at the last minute due to an injury to senior Lindsey Serres. |
