The Lady Cougars faced a formidable opponent in the Lady Eagles of Faith West Academy. Every year Faith West puts together a very impressive softball team and this year proved to be no different. In the first inning the Lady Eagles placed a perfect bunt just out of the reach of our corners and quickly got a runner in scoring position. Then the Lady Eagles best all around player hit a hard double to start the scoring. However, the Lady Cougars held tight and made some great defensive plays to keep the score 1 - 0 until the third inning. Several errors ended up costing the Lady Cougars 3 more runs. Offensively we struggled with our timing against a very good pitcher. She kept most of our hitters guessing with a great curve ball and an even better change up. Leading the team in hitting this game were sophomore Brittany Flowers, that had a terrific slap just over the heads of the infield, and junior Jessica Maddox that singled up the middle. However, the Cougars could never put together a rally and failed to put any runs on the board. Once again Ashley Sheffield did an outstanding job, giving up only 4 hits and only allowing only one earned run. Also, she did not walk a single batter in 6 innings of play. The Lady Cougars look to rebound quickly from this loss tomorrow when they face John Cooper.
