Timely hitting – a principle that continues to elude the Lady Cougars. Heading into our first district matchup with the Lady Crusaders of Concordia Lutheran the Lady Cougars were hoping to feed off of the momentum from their last hard fought game. We started the game hitting the ball hard but hitting right into the hands of the defense. The Lady Cougars continued to hit the ball and get runners in scoring position but simply could not finish the job and get the runners across the plate. We finished four innings with a runner on third base. Defensively, the Lady Cougars played extremely well committing only one error. The play of the game goes to Kelsey Hickman. With bases loaded and only one out the Lady Cougars looked to be in trouble. The batter for Concordia hit a line drive that Kelsey instinctively dove for and snagged out of the air. Then Kelsey jumped up and beat the runner back to third to double the runner up and get the Lady Cougars out of a jam. As always the Lady Cougars played hard and fought until the end but simply came up short with a score of 0 – 6. The good news is tonight the Lady Crusaders will be coming to play on our home field and the girls are looking to protect their home turf. |
