The Lady Cougars might have played their best game of the year when they faced the Lady Eagles of Second Baptist. The Lady Eagles came into the game ranked number two in the district and just might have underestimated the Lady Cougars. With excellent defensive play by the Lady Cougars the score remained a shut out until the last inning. Several times the Lady Cougars had opportunities to score but just could not get the hit to get a run across the plate.  However, everything changed in the seventh inning.  SBS took advantage of an error and a questionable call and finished the top half of the inning with three runs. Refusing to give up the Lady Cougars headed into the bottom of the seventh ready to fight. Sarah Steele led off with a single. Senior Ashley Scott then stepped up and laid down a beautiful bunt to advance Sarah to second. Brittany Flowers then reached first on a perfect slap. With a quick steal by Brittany the Lady Cougars had runners in scoring position with the tying run at the plate. Laura Ashley stepped up to the plate and smashed a stand up double that allowed both Sarah and Brittany to score. With the tying run now on second and two outs the tension was certainly felt on both sides. However, the Lady Eagles narrowly escaped with a win after the pitcher placed a perfect pitch just out of the reach of our last batter. Words could not describe how proud I was of the team for the way they finished this game. It would have been incredibly easy for the girls to give up and think that three runs was an insurmountable lead. However, instead they showed just how much heart they had. There was never a point in this game that the girls doubted their ability to win. It is games like this one that remind me just how blessed I am to be in this profession. It is a privilege to be a part of the journey the Lord has for this group of girls.
