1-1

We played at Covenant Christian this afternoon and finished in a 1-1 tie. Keaton Hart scored the Cougar goal with the assist from Brad Ward. Even though the other team had only 7th & 8th graders, our team that starts 8 6th graders held its own. The defense, lead by Patrick Casale, John Streckfuss, Christina Hawk, Hannah Davis, AJ Ortenstone, Cindy Gonzalez, and Danny Beltran played so that our keeper, Bradley Langford, only touched the ball once in the second half. The Cougars pounded away at the opponents goal throughout the game. We saw improvement in every part of the game. Way to go Coogs!

In our home opener, the Cougars ran into a strong John Cooper team. The 0-9 loss was tough, but our young Coogs fought hard in the Houston heat. We had a tough time matching speed and size, and John Cooper fielded an outstanding team. Bradley Langford had another solid day in the goal. He stopped an incredible 30 shots including one penalty kick from Cooper's best player. The game also saw the return of Nick Martina and Ella Bayne from injuries.

Bradley Langford was strong in goal and was helped by good play by Patrick Casale and John Streckfuss from their sweeper and stopper positions. Christina Hawk and Hannah Davis again made some crucial stops from their defensive positions. Our midfield continues to improve. Marc Cataldo, Keaton Hart, and Ella Bayne attacked continually and helped shut down a couple of good players. Our record is now 2 wins, 1 loss, 1 tie. Way to go Cougars!

There are those times when one plays hard only to come up short. Such was the case for the Cougar soccer team at Concordia this weekend. Battling fatigue, heat, and poor scheduling, the Cougars lost our last three games by a combined total of 4 goals, losing to St. Theresa (0-2), Salem Lutheran (0-1), St. Anne (0-1). In our first game, we held Trinity Lutheran to one goal after allowing 4 in the first half. Because of prior commitments and injuries, the Cougars were not at full strength. Several players played more minutes than they normally do and did a great job. Hannah Davis, Danny Beltran, and Malcolm Barnes played well this weekend.

2-2
Enjoying a wonderfully cooler day and cloud cover, the young Cougars played Woodlands Academy to a 2-2 tie. Marc Cataldo scored and had an assist. Nick Martina also scored on a beautifully placed corner kick from Marc. Good job fellows. Keaton Hart continues to bring strength with his game. He strongly defended their best player and provided several wonderful plays in our attacking third.  Danny Beltran also turned in his best performance of the year.
