The Cougars traveled to St. John’s and took on a team that we had not beaten in two tries. It was readily apparent that this year would be different, as the Cougars came out firing on all cylinders. The defense played rock solid, creating four turnovers and stuffing the Mavericks on most plays. The headliner was the steady play of QB Shane Knight, who found open receivers time and time again to move the ball down the field in large chunks. When the dust settled, Shane had thrown for 357 yards on 19 completions. Kyle Serres and Kevin Robertson had 7 catches each and Joe Barnett had two touchdown receptions. The other heroes were Dillon Hendrix with an interception on the second-to-last play of the game to set up a game-winning 32 yard field goal by Kyle Serres on the last play of the game. |

The Cougars traveled to Austin for Game 1 this year and came away with a 42-28 loss at the hands of St. Stephen's. The Cougars had over 400 yards of offense but suffered several key turnovers late that sealed their fate. The Spartans had offensive success of their own, led by their QB DJ Johnson. Shane Knight set a school record with 20 completions but it was not enough as the Cougars lost a 28-28 tie with 4 minutes to go. |
