Cougars Tie Galveston
players of the week

Ryland Gimenez, #34
Offensive MVP
(16 rushes,
65 yards, 1 TD)

Kevin Robertson, #27
Defensive MVP
(10 tackles,
1 for loss,
1 interception)

The MS football team (2-1) traveled to Galveston last night to take on the undefeated Buccaneers of Galveston Catholic (3-0). The game began with the defense swarming to the ball every play. Northland held Galveston to a 4th and long on their first possession. After a successful fake punt from Galveston's own 22 yard line, the Cougar defense rallied and held Galveston for the rest of the game. With the exception of 2 broken plays on defense (both led to long touchdown runs; 54 and 63 yards), the guys on the defensive side of the ball played phenomenally. The offense played just as well. Ryland Gimenez rushed the ball 16 times for 65 yards and 1 touchdown; Kevin Robertson rushed twice for 52 yards and 1 touchdown; and Trevor Winne rushed the ball 2 times as well for 22 yards.

The Northland defense held Galveston on a 4th down and 8 yard attempt on the NCS 48 with 1:15 left in the game. With no timeouts, the Cougars drove the ball down the field. On the last play of the game, Will Abt avoided a blitz and threw the ball into the endzone. The ball was tipped and almost caught, but fell incomplete as the Cougars went for the win. The game ended in a 12-12 tie. There's a good chance these 2 teams will meet again in the playoffs. Both teams played hard all game and I was proud with our effort and the class in which we (the Northland players) played.
