Northland Christian captured its second consecutive TAPPS Division III District 4 title with a 82-6 win over Beaumont Cathedral on Senior night. NCS pounded Cathedral for 401 yards on the ground as five different Cougars carried the ball for a score. Matt Krob led the way with a huge night, rushing 18 times for 193 yards and scoring 4 times. On his last carry of the evening Krob eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the season in just 8 games. He is also tied with Joey Cook for most rushing touchdowns (19) and overall touchdowns (21) in a season. Krob also pounded out 100 or more yards in 7 of his 8 games. Senior Kendrick Blue got "Senior Night" of to a great start by opening the game with a 100 yard kick-off return for a touchdown. Blue also added 2 rushing touch-downs, on runs of 13 and 21. Freshman quarter-back Shane Knight got the start and completed 7 of his 9 passes on the night, including an exciting 41 yard toss to Jonathan Martin. Freshman running back Stuart Trahan added 2 touchdowns and finished with 85 yards in 11 carries. Senior Jack Montgomery, who made the transition from tailback to fullback, scored from 19 yards out. Sophomore converted rb (previously a qb) added his first career varsity score. Northland's defense was able to force 4 turnovers, including 3 interceptions. Senior Blaine Toldan hauled in his 5th int. of the season and returned it for his third td of the season. This game marks the end of Northland's run in this district, they are moving up to Division II next year. NCS ended its 4 year run with a 22-3 district record, including a 13 game win streak and winning 18 of the last 19 district games. Northland won the district title twice, finished second to Bay Area Christian in 2003, and finshed 3rd in 2002, in its first varsity season since 1994. The Cougars have gone to the play-offs in each of the 4 years. With the victory Friday night, Northland will receive a first round bye and will play the winner of the Southwest Christian/ Garland Christian bi-district game to be played this Friday or Saturday.
