Uniform policy

Your complete uniform must be returned in original working order. No matter how legitimate your explanation may be you will still be required to pay for unreturned merchandise! Even if, during a meet, you are abducted by aliens and returned three days later no longer wearing your uniform, you will still have to pay! That's a shame…

WHAT RUNNING SHOES SHOULD I BUY?
Please visit the following location of Fleet Feet to purchase your cross country shoes (Fleet Feet - 8220 Louetta Road, #140 – 281.370.4140). Although it would be cute for all the runners to wear matching shoes, it is more important for your feet to remain comfy and toasty and blister-free. Fleet Feet will provide you with the expert advice and proper fitting you will need to run your best. You must purchase CROSS COUNTRY shoes, NOT running or trail shoes! When paying, say you are on the NCS team and you will receive a 10% discount. Giddyup!

In the Houston heat and humidity, synthetic fibers are better than cotton—for practice look for polyester or other synthetic moisture-wicking fabrics. Practice clothing must be school colors, modest, and preferably purchased at The Cougar Store. One practice shirt will be provided for your sweating and running pleasure.

Stay hydrated! Both physically AND spiritually!

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
                  – I Corinthians 9:24-27

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
                  – Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV

PRACTICE TIPS
The above practice times include the time needed for transportation (time leaving NCS and time returning to NCS). Bring your own water and sport drink, and maybe a salty snack, such as pretzels. Bring $$$ in case we stop for a cold beverage to quench your hydration needs. You may also wish to bring a towel to wipe away your hard-earned sweat!

Please wear a watch with a stopwatch for our practices away from campus. This is very important as we get separated when we run.

PRACTICE POLICY
You must practice to run in the meets or you must abide by any special arrangement made with me before the season starts (e.g. two-sport athlete/job). If an emergency prevents you from attending practice, then you must tell me first by email (Do not send word through another runner or attempt to call me. You must email me with your legitimate reason for missing practice).

PRACTICE PASSES
Each runner will be given three PRACTICE PASSES, with each one allowing you to miss a practice with no questions asked. Show me the pass and I literally will not ask why you are missing practice. Show me the pass and no excuses are needed, or even desired. No additional practices may be missed, unless emergency policy is followed or prior arrangements have been made with Coach Reaves.

YOU MUST COMPLETE YOUR PHYSICAL EXAM BEFORE YOU CAN EVEN PRACTICE!

UNIFORM REPLACEMENT COST

As stated above, runners will be held responsible for all lost uniforms, regardless of the reason. Here are the individual costs…
WARM-UP TOP - $40.00
WARM-UP BOTTOM - $25.00

UNIFORM TOP - $45.00
UNIFORM BOTTOM - $25.00
In the event of lost items, The NCS Business Office will bill the parents at the end of the season
