A note from Coach Reaves:

This year the TAPPS State Cross Country Meet was held at Brooks City Base in San Antonio , TX . We left on Friday afternoon to enjoy an evening eating authentic Mexican food at the award-winning Rosarios followed by a leisurely evening stroll on the famous Riverwalk. The runners enjoyed taking pictures and even purchased art from an artist using spray paint and a torch to create his futuristic-looking pieces (probably safe to assume students won't be using spray paint and torches in art class at NCS!). I enjoyed scaring Sean Palizza multiple times during the walk (the Riverwalk has great hiding places!).

There was great energy and fanfare at the state meet. A marathon-like atmosphere was in the air and our runners were relaxed and laid-back as usual. I have always been a fierce competitor in need of a “chill pill,” so this group has reminded me why I love to run. I have never sensed a lack of heart once the gun shoots off, and this day was no exception, as each runner showed tremendous effort and spirit in sprinting through the finish line to complete another season of Cougar Cross Country.

It was my honor to coach this never-boring group of runners. I know there is talent waiting to join the team next year, so I feel confident that Cougar Cross Country will go to the next level in the years to come. From the banana spiders and cliffs to the mud, thorns, and creek crossings, I thoroughly enjoyed all the shared running adventures. I know together we understand why running has so much spiritual application to our walk with God, so I look forward to future runs, but more importantly, to continuing our spiritual run together towards our eternal home in heaven.
