A note from Coach Reaves:

I will go to my grave baffled by how a cross country team could run off course on its own home course , but that is exactly what happened at the District Meet! The course turned into the “Bermuda Triangle” of courses. In a nutshell, the junior varsity races were a complete sham as the runners were directed the wrong way on a course that should have been as familiar as a reflection in the mirror for the host team. Of course I, the runners, and parents were understandably disappointed by the poor organization and execution of this meet.

This I know for sure, Miss Hannah Marie Davis finished first in the Junior Varsity Girls Division! She did so by running the correct course, and not crossing the parking lot taking a short cut to the finish line, as many girls were directed to do. Unbelievable! Congratulation also goes to Mr. Preston Pope, who was in second place before being commanded to run off course. Preston would have finished his race in less than twenty minutes, but instead pulled in strong and determined thirty-two minutes after the race started. Preston Pope showed class and patience for an inexcusable blunder by the race organizers.

The organizer has apologized to me on the phone for the many blunders of the junior varsity races. Apology is accepted. Mistakes certainly happen, so we will move forward to the state meet. Please congratulate Hannah Davis on her legitimate victory and encourage Preston for his strong and admirable effort.
