2009-10 Girls Varsity
02/04/10 District Tournament - NCS vs Concordia Lutheran L 28-61

7 – 5 – 11 – 6 = 28
15 – 29 – 11 – 6 = 61

With a playoff spot set secured, we had nothing to lose as we faced Concordia Lutheran in the semi-finals of the District Tournament. We lost to CLHS in our first district game this year back on January 2 by 48 points (25-73). Our 2 main goals for this game were to 1.) stay healthy and 2.) to compare this game to our game played on January 2 to see how much we’ve improved in the last month. For the most part, both goals were met.

We played well in the first period despite a few turnovers and a couple of missed shots inside the paint. As typical for us this season, the second period has been our Achilles heal. We lost focus and started to force passes that weren’t open. These unforced turnovers created easy scoring opportunities for Concordia on the other end. Concordia heated up on the offensive end this period shooting 9 for 13 from the floor including three 3 pointers and they were 2 for 2 from the free throw line. We maintained pace with them during the second half as we lost by 33 points, 28 – 61. A scary moment took place in the 4th period when Brittany Flowers came down awkwardly and hyper-extended her knee. This was the same knee that she had surgery on last May after tearing her meniscus. She was evaluated by their athletic trainer and then she saw our world famous trainer, Ray Melchiorre, when we arrived back on campus about 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. We’ll evaluate her more tomorrow during practice and then we’ll take it a day at a time to see how much she’ll be able to play vs. Second Baptist on Saturday. We need her healthy for the 1st round of the playoffs next weekend.

Brittany led the team with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 charges taken and 9 points. Arnelle also had 2 assists, 2 steals and 9 points. Gabbie had a solid game defensively as she finished with 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 4 points (2 for 2 from the FT line). Madison also played well pulling down 4 rebounds along with 2 steals and 2 points (2 for 2 from the FT line).

As a team, we shot 7 for 27 (25.9%) from the floor, 1 for 8 (12.5%) from behind the arc, and 13 for 18 (72.2%) from the free throw line.
