Girls look really good for their first game. They come out with a press that Rosehill could not break. Cougars score 20 points in the first quarter! Scoring slowed down greatly after pulling the press and only scored 14 in the last 3 quarters. Leading scorer: Arnelle Pender with 12, leading in steals: Rebekah Krob, and leading rebounder: Taylor Huff. Final Score: 34 - 4.

The MS girls were in control of the HYCA games from the beginning. Our press is proving to be very effective. B team was led in scoring by Rachel Hardy w/ 12 pts. Leading in steals and rebounds was Sarah Byrne - she was definitely our Most Valuable Player. Score for the B team: 41-12
Leading the A team in scoring (17 pts), rebounding, and steals was Arnelle Pender. Score for A team: 31-11

Can't say the Trinity Eagles were not a good team - took us down. The B team struggled w/ continuity, different players in different places is not a recipe for success. Leading the team w/ 3 pts. was Keeley Abt and the defensive player of the evening was Alexis Pope. Score: 13-28
The A team fell short by 5 baskets. The Eagles had a great shooting night and we just didn't seem to get our "sights" on the rim. Excellent defense and most valuable players were Stephanie Mozey and Rebekah Krob. Leading rebounder - Sydney Greer. Score: 18-28

B TEAM: What a nail biter! Such hustle out of both teams and even went to overtime, 12-12. Three more minutes put on the clock and the Cougars win 13-12; the Free Throw was scored by Payton Brown. Highlights: Super defensive play by Catie Eichler, super guard play by Sarah Byrne, leading scorer was Keeley Abt. Most notable - who knew Payton Brown could play post?!!

A TEAM: I continue to be impressed by the hustle these girls can show. Tonight was a determined group of young players. Our press is our strong point and when the right 5 are on the floor, the opponents can hardly get past the 1/2 court.
Stat leaders: Steals - Arnelle Pender      Rebounds - Gabbie Fontana          Score - Arnelle Pender

We worked on our inside game at practice today and you could see the results tonight. Great job by the post players! But I am most impressed with our Free Throw shooting. We made 17 out of 29! Keep up the good work ladies.

We continue to work on our inside game, but the guards were shining tonight! Steal leader again - Amanda Organ and leading in the lay-ups was Stephanie Mozey. Rebekah Krob is on the front of the press causing the turn-overs by our opponents. Great job ladies.

NCS B team defeats Baytown Christian 30 - 4. The experience of our team clearly showed tonight. We pulled off the press and the fast break early and we still won by 26 pts. Nice job ladies - finish strong! Carley, Sarah, and Keeley each scored 6 pts.

I guess I need to be more clear when I call schools about B team matches. We took on another A team tonight, played tough, missed a few too many easy baskets and so fell short by 15 pts. But we must highlight Rachel Hardy for playing the one on the Box and 1 and Annie Kraner for some very tough defense. The B team finishes the season w/ a respectable 9-4 record. Congratulations to each one.

After playing our B team, the St. Annes team just ran out of steam during this game. Our defense was strong. We ran a variety of presses. We were able to work on our passing and cutting game and I was pretty pleased with the results.

The Cougars take the Tournament Championship after a hard fought game on Friday vs. TWCA and a slow start on Saturday vs. CCS. The game vs. TWCA was tight from the beginning! The Northland girls have had so few games that really pushed them that I wondered if we could pull through. But, the Northland defense and an outstanding inside game by Gabbie Fontana, turned that game into a win.

We always know it will be a tough game when we play Cypress Christian. Our press was not stopping them, our rebounding was not where it needed to be, and our shooting was off in the first quarter; consequently, the score is not in our favor. After a few "kind" coaching words and a change in personnel, the Cougars took off on a 15-0 run and we never looked back. Katie Martin made a big difference here by causing several positive turn-overs for Stephanie and Arnelle to turn into points.

Each member made a difference when they needed to and that has made this team good. Because of the injuries and the illnesses we have suffered this year, the girls have had to compensate for each other and that has made us stronger.

Northland has not had the District Championship in 4 years and that made this victory even sweeter. Congratulations to all!

Congratulations Lady Cougars!
