First game of the B team season - who knows what is going on?? =) The girls played hard until the last buzzer and I give them credit for that. You will see some great improvement out of this team, I guarantee it.

Who knew what would happen after a week off for Thanksgiving? I must say the coaches were a little nervous.
But this young team had everything working tonight! NCS won and looked good doing it! The Cougars defeated the CHSA Wolverines (12 yr. olds). Score 18 - 6. Leading in steals: Hailey Cannon and Carley Pope. Leading Rebounder: Sarah Byrne  Leading Scorers: Hailey Cannon and Carley Pope.
Thanks to the fans and cheerleaders that supported our team. Please come out and cheer for the A team tonight at 4:30 as they take on the Dragons from John Cooper.

First round of the Faith West Academy tournament, the Lady Cougars vs the Bay Area Broncos.  Cougars took control quickly by running the press and the fast break for a half time score of 24 - 1.  Second half was spent working on the offense, final score 34-10.  Leading scorer was Briona Chatman with 14, followed by Ali Knudson and Arnelle Pender
with 6.
Second game puts us against the Homeschoolers of SATCH. This was a tough match. The Cougars were behind through the 3rd quarter. But tough defense and having 5 of our 8 players score in the 4th quarter gave us the win. Going to the Championship round! Score 38-32.
Championship game: Northland vs. Covenant Christian. This game was not much contest.
In the first quarter, our press dominated and the score was 18-2. The coaches intentionally slowed the game down to work on a controlled offense. We continued to play strong defensively, but the scoring definitely took a dive. Final score: Northland Christian 33, Covenant 6.
This Championship belongs to each member of the team. All of the girls contributed, whether they started the game or came off the bench. Each player scored in at least one of the three games. Most impressive was the hustle and heart shown by Kelsey McIntrye. Her defense caused many turnovers for the other team and her passing on offense gave us many scoring opportunities. Congratulations to all!

Opened our District w/ Faith West. The girls played well, running a press with a fast break. On the offense, our posts were able to get a lot of looks and ended up leading in the scoring dept. Briona Chatman and Ali Knudson with 10 each. Great rebounding by our off-side guards, Rebekah Krob, Arnelle Pender, and Madison Flowers. Kelsey Mcintyre and Stephanie Mozey led in steals. All members contributed well in different areas. Final score: NCS 35- FWA 6.

The Northland girls had an easy win tonight. We did not look like ourselves until the second half. Too many turn-overs kept us out of a rhythm, but when things started clicking, it was nice to watch. This group of girls has a nice chemistry and could certainly regain the title of DISTRICT CHAMPS. Ali Knudson led in heart and hustle. Beautiful rebounding on the off-side by Rebekah Krob. And outstanding passing by Kelsey McIntrye. Again, many of the girls were on the board, but leading the way with 11 pts. was Briona Chatman, followed by Arnelle Pender w/ 8. Final score 30 - 4.

What a busy time of the year! And it appeared that my girls had everything on their mind but basketball. The Dolphins of St. Anthony's weren't a bad team, but we made them look even better! Our second half was a bit improved. Good rebounding by Taylor Huff and McKenna Beckstead. Carley Pope and Sarah Byrne led in steals. And the only three that scored were Catie Eichler, Hailey Cannon, and Shelby Blocker.

The last time we met SATCH was at the Faith West tournament. They were tough then and tough again tonight.
After a hard 4 quarters, we were tied 19 - 19. I wasn't really sure the girls had the 'mental' game to finish, but they surprised me and pulled off a big win. All girls contributed in one way or another. Score: 28-21. Leading in steals: Briona Chatman Leading in rebounds: Arnelle Pender Leading in score: Rebekah Krob / Briona Chatman.

A trip to Conroe to play SATCH. If you remember our first meeting, it was REALLY BAD! Later on, we found out that we played against several older girls. Today's match up was a bit better, at least as far as the score went. The B team is out of sync right now. We did have some spurts of brilliance. Score: 4 - 16. The only two that scored were Alexis Pope, her first of the season, and Rebecca Whisler.

Each game brings a little more apprension when you are undefeated. But the girls believe in themselves and each other and play that way. The score doesn't really tell the story. Cypress gave us a good game and we just stepped up. The fast break was our "bread and butter" tonight.

The girls finished a great season at the District Tournament at WAP. Two of our girls had a soccer commitment and we asked some of the B team players to help us out. The first game against Cypress Christian gave all of our girls playing time. The B team babies really stood out, so energetic! Madison Flowers led the team in scoring w/ 9 pts and right behind her was Arnelle Pender with 7. Final score: NCS- 30 / CCS - 11.

Saturday afternoon, we met the #4 seed, Covenant Christian. We were short a few players, but managed to put on a good finish. Leading scorer was Arnelle Pender with 13. Final score: NCS - 32 / Covenant - 23.

Championship game at 6:15. We know we are going to have a tough game against SATCH. Thank goodness, Stephanie Mozey shows up at the last minute from her soccer clinic because she made a huge difference in our intensity. Our girls played a very solid game and we had a small lead at half, 15-6, not nearly enough for a good team like this. However, where our shooting was solid the first half and theirs was off, things switched in the 4th quarter. We go in with a 12 pt. lead, but cannot hit a basket and they tie us at regulation. We have been here before! The first time we played in District, we also went into overtime, and we were able to beat them by 6. Unfortunately, we fell a basket short today. Northland - 26 / SATCH - 28

A nearly perfect season ladies. I am still so proud of you.

Scoring: Chatman - 7 / Pender - 6 / Flowers - 5 /Knudson - 4 / Krob and Mozey - 2
