As we traveled to play the Wildcats of Westbury Christian, we knew the odds were stacked against us. Westbury, perennial State Finalist each year, leads the district standings with an undefeated record. Our team, down to 7 players due to illness and injury, went in ready to play hard; and they did.
Robin Archer started the game by drilling her first shot (a 3-pointer). After the 1st period, we were down 17-11. In the 2nd, we began to turn the ball over and only managed to get 3 shots off in the entire period compared to Westbury's 15 shots. At the half, Westbury led 31-15. Even though our girls continued to battle, the third period looked similar to the second and WCS extended their lead to 31 points, leading by the score of 52-21 heading into the fourth. Westbury's quickness forced us to foul too many times and Bailee Pender and Brittany Flowers both fouled out of the game, leaving us with no subs on the bench for the last 4 minutes. Robyn Archer played smart for the rest of the game not committing her 5th foul. The final score was in favor of Westbury, 58-25. Despite our 27 turnovers, our half court offense continues to improve and I was pleased with the effort the girls gave tonight.
As a team, we shot 8 for 18 from the floor (44%), 1 for 6 (17%) from behind the arc, and a perfect 6 for 6 (100%) from the line. Our free throws have been near perfect over the last 2 games. Robyn Archer led the team with 5 rebounds; Brittany Flowers led the team with 4 assists and Kelsey Hickman and Bailee Pender each had 3 steals. Six out of the seven girls that played tonight scored. Brittany Flowers led the team with points, followed by Robyn Archer with 5.
