With 2 games left to go before the District Tournament, our goal was to come out playing hard and picking up momentum as we geared for next week. Bailee Pender came out strong in the first period scoring 11 of her game high 13 points. We (Northland) led at the end of the first period 11-3. The second period looked similar to the first with the exception of 6 girls contributing in the scoring category. By half, NCS had extended the lead to 22-8. Our guards began to heat up in the third. Brittany Flowers and Robin Archer shot almost 50% from the field as we outscored Awty 13-6. Our defense began to fall apart in the fourth as Awty's girls continued to hustle. Awty managed to shoot the ball 17 times in the 4th period outscoring the Cougars 10-5. Despite the 4th period, the girls played well enough to win tonight and it's always nice to come out on top in district play.
As a team, we shot 17 for 53 (32%) from the floor, 0 for 3 (0%) from behind the arc, and 6 for 10 (60%) from the line. Emily Wilson dominated the boards pulling down 15 rebounds. Brittany Flowers and Robyn Archer led the team with 3 assists each and Robyn also led with 3 steals. Robyn, Brittany, Paige Cornwell and Allison Gilbert all had a blocked shot. Our two seniors led the team in scoring tonight; Bailee with 13 points and Emily followed with 8. Seven of the eight girls that touched the court tonight contributed with points. It was a well rounded game.
