What an honor it was for me to coach this team in the most exciting game of the season! Yes! The atmosphere was hostile and intense. Our boys could were sluggish on the offensive side of the ball. This was the night every team has when the shots do not cooperate by falling through the net. I was miffed!
Certain aspects of the game should never go in a slump, and thankfully defense, fundamentals, and heart and grit showed up, and showed up strong! Our boys simply refused to lose. They played with intensity for all four quarters and held their composure to the final buzzer. With five seconds remaining and only a measly one-point advantage, Michael Pender, our team-elected captain, deposited two free throws where they belonged, in the bottom of the net. Michael iced the game from the line. All those free throw drills showed serious dividends. Nice job, boys. I am proud to be your coach.
John Horsey led the team in scoring with 14 hard-earned points. Keaton Hart grabbed 10 rebounds and Michael Pender selfishly stole the ball 5 times. Although the team stats seem weak, our heart, which is the ultimate stat, was strong! God looked good by the way we played and handled ourselves from beginning to end.
