We left the NCS elementary campus at 4:00 pm and did not arrive at Woodlands Christian Academy until 5:15 pm. We sat in traffic so long that I think the players forgot where we were headed and what we were doing. It took a full half of basketball to start playing basketball. We were sluggish, both physically and mentally. At halftime, down by a point,
we made a change from zone to man, and also chose an offense requiring more movement. The players awoke and in the process found their heart. John Horsey’s hair spiked, which
it always does when he plays hard, and AJ Ortenstone started diving for balls on the floor. Keaton Hart added a couple of blocks and steals were plentiful. When all was said and done, it was ugly, but a victory nonetheless. Our opponent was disciplined and well-coached, but our heart and determination won in the end. I am proud of your boys!
As for the stats, Keaton Hart set the team season high in steals with 8. Are you kidding me? John Horsey grabbed 13 rebounds, with 8 being of the offensive variety, and I mean “offensive” to the opposing team the way he refuses to surrender. John is the hungriest player I have ever encountered. Joseph Williams came off the bench with some tough defense when our starters needed a rest. Michael Pender dished 6 dimes for another true team effort.
