This was our first home game at the Elementary Campus, and we had a sluggish start. SATCH made some defensive adjustments in an effort to slow our explosive offense, especially to stop our high scorer, Justin “Silky Smooth” Jackson. Even though we only scored 12 points in the entire first half, our intense and aggressive 2-1-2 zone defense only gave up 12 points the entire game! The offense blew up with 19 points in the third quarter with our never fail full-court press, which we affectionately call “The Swarm.” When all was said and done, these humble, yet confident and classy young men pocketed another 20-point margin of victory, even with our starters spending as much time on the bench as the back-up players.
Justin Jackson still led all scorers with 16 hard-earned points, along with 3 assists and 3 steals. Bradley Ward, who has shown marked improvement and boldly claimed the fifth starter position, added 6 points of his own. Landon Breeding grabbed 5 boards off the bench and A.J. Ortenstone tied his season-high with 6 rebounds, 5 of which were offensive. Keaton Hart capped the well-balanced attack with 5 steals and 5 rebounds.
Again, I was most proud of the class our young men showed throughout the afternoon. They pick up after themselves. They pray for their opponent. They encourage one another. They take responsibility for their mistakes. I'm so proud of this team and continue to find great joy and honor in coaching these very teachable young men.
