I told the boys before this game to get ready. Although we have beat Cypress Christian convincingly on two previous occasions, they are a solid team who has also been winning most of their games this season. I told our young men that Cypress came to play and would not roll over for another NCS lopsided victory. Little did I know how correct the prediction would become when for the first time all season I had to put my starters back in the game when Cypress shrunk our lead to a few points in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter. This was an exciting fast-paced game and our players maintained their composure with unselfish and heartfelt play and finishing with another victory. Our cheerleaders helped immensely with well-timed encouragement for our team and the stands were packed full of Cougar fans. What a year this has been for our seventh grade boys' team!
Defense was the key on this evening as our offense was a bit sluggish and Cypress was running a hard-nosed man-to-man defense. Our quarterback Michael Pender responded with 9 assists while weaving a masterpiece of ball control throughout the game. Keaton Hart is an offensive board machine! He claimed 8 offensive boards and 11 total rebounds for the game. Bradley Ward set a personal best with 11 boards of his own and Justin Jackson, whose shot kept going in and out, still led the way with 14 points. Again what made me most proud is that 9 players were in the scoring column! The winning streak now stands at 9 games and we plan to finish the season winning!
I am so proud of our young men. They play as one and individual players are learning to appreciate and understand individual roles.
