Congratulations to our young men on their win Friday night versus Holy Trinity! The final score was a convincing 37-21. Justin Jackson led the assault with 16 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 8 boards. Michael Pender took care of the ball and dropped in 9 points of his own, along with 4 assists and 3 steals. Bradley Ward was the man off the bench grabbing 6 rebounds of his own. More important than the victory was the character our seventh grade boys showed throughout the day.
They were the sharpest dressed men on campus with pressed shirts and slick ties. They also prayed together, encouraged one another, and let their play make the statement. Following the game they picked up trash in the boys locker room, trash they had not left behind. You see, we have dedicated this season to making God look good in all we do. This goal will be our ultimate purpose.
These young men of God are already recognizing the larger spiritual lessons to be learned through their involvement on a team. We have thanked God for giving us the amazing game of basketball as our platform for making Him look good. We have talked about practical ways of accomplishing this season-long goal, such as constant sportsmanship, picking up trash, dressing for success, respecting our parents, teachers, and coaches, excelling in our academics, supporting our young ladies and treating them as daughters of Jesus Christ, and many other ways yet to be discovered!
Pray for these young men to be safe this season and free of injury. Please also pray for each one to continue growing in the Lord. I am so honored to be coaching them and for the privilege of witnessing their growth through the game of basketball. |
